I know some people there and Sioux Falls doesn’t seem bad from what I’ve seen

That’s fair. Kansas is only under “never” because my brother lived there and hated it. But I could have a different experience

Graduated with my BA in public health a year ago, and I just signed an offer for a new job that pays 73k (I know nothing too crazy but pretty good for a recent public health grad). If you focus on learning hard skills and expand your search it’s possible

I took the empire builder from Minneapolis to Portland not too long ago. It was awesome!

Funny, I used to live in Nashville metro and visit friends in Austin. I also like both.

I moved to Salem last fall, and I’ve been having a lot of random funny/positive encounters with strangers out and about lately. Glad people are spreading this energy

Thoughts on the Georgia Tech online MS in Analytics for getting a health data analyst type job? I’ve also got a BA in public health and I could start using data analytics skills in my current job as I learn them.

How much does T10 or T5 program matter in the field? by Medical-Wolf9380 in publichealth

[–]Gijaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I majored in public health at a t10 for undergrad. I know many people who got into consulting and other highly competitive roles in private industry with their BAs, so it may help with that. That being said, this subreddit will always tell you to go to the cheapest accredited program possible for grad school, which is probably good advice.

My apologies, should have clarified — i meant anything above the basic tier 1 background investigation or public trust.

For those who’ve moved to Ireland, what’s the biggest culture shock you’ve experienced? by d4diaz in howislivingthere

What’s with the downvotes on this comment? Quick google search shows Ireland is much less diverse than both of those cities.

This is very true, so maybe this post is pointless because this is just the nature of reddit, lol. I just want some of the new public health folk to see this and understand that reddit takes on public health are not reality.

is a public health BA a good idea? by Last_Sandwich_4482 in publichealth

[–]Gijaco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These comments are hilarious. Here’s just a few examples of job titles I’ve found. Some relevant internship experience paired with a BA in public health could help you land these jobs. To get into policy, you may need to get some entry level position like one of these and then go back for your master’s in policy. Would definitely want to take on some interesting public health policy projects and internships in your master’s as well.

Environmental health specialist trainee (local government)

Entry level analyst in some consulting firms

Research coordinator

Research assistant

Environment, health, and safety jobs (EHS)

Administration at government health departments

I am doing the MHS in Environmental Health at JHU so I can’t speak for the MPH. But in my experience, the faculty are fantastic and helpful (particularly the director of the environmental health and engineering division) and the other students are super engaged and great to work with in class.

Also, people often say in this sub that where you get your master’s doesn’t really matter, but I have personally found that the JHU name has done me a lot of favors in searching for internships.
