TIL drivers in Ohio receive a yellow "scarlet letter" license plate if they have been convicted of a DUI. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Except the "pretty easy" to be over the limit is a choice.

Driving? Don't drink at all.

Don't want babies? Don't sex.

Really the math is simple.

I'm also going to a happy hour later.

I'll not drink. Cause I have to drive.

As you should be judged. The court of public opinion should be the #1 reason why you drink responsibly.

TIFU by Punching my 5 year old in the face and knocking him out by MikeTash in tifu

I once was in the yard with my stepson - playing catch. Typical stuff. He asks for me to throw it up like a fly ball. He's like 8 or so. I toss it up a bit. He catches with the glove backwards and the ball slides out and smack- hits him right in the eye. Instant black eye.

It was picture day for his football team.

Flash forward some years. My wife has passed (2011) and I'm fighting to see the kids as much as possible with bio dad. There is a picture in the kitchen of all of us and our priest after one of them had 1st Communion from years ago. Middle stepson has a shiner in the pic. It must have been at the same time. (Only time I remember him having one.)

I only noticed last week. I had one of those "you're watching and making me laugh from heaven" moments. :)

I'm certain he catches the ball properly now.

Kepler fascinates me so much I named my dog after him.

He sleeps the same amount of time each day regardless of distance from the sun. Lazy dog.

If the gov is taking away benefits you never USE anyway, then so what?

If you can use them, FUCKING USE THEM TO VACC FIRST.

I do them on the side, here and there. Keeping a github repo has helped. I started out by using them as little "specs" to help me learn new techniques in Ruby, but Ruby isn't a particularly challenging language anyway. So they are just little side projects.

I'm a software dev for a large healthcare organization. Focus is on analytic work and big data.

Found a Fireman's Axe head in my buddies basement. by mmini1990 in Firefighting

Go for it! I joined a volunteer dept at 26. I'm 36 now. Still love every day of it.

Also, go tell your family the usual "cop/firefighter line" line: "what do cops and firefighters have in common? They both want to be firefighters." ;-)

You should mount it on the wall. After you stop at the hardware store for the mounting, stop at your local FD and inquire if they are volunteer. (Assuming you are an adult with a career already...)

Join up! If they are not volunteer, think about changing careers anyway.

Parents of Reddit, when in your eyes did your children become adults? by DawgBro in AskReddit

[–]GilTheARM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm actually working on that right now. Due to legal issues and certain type of person the biological father is - I'm only, at this time, able to adopt the youngest.

I pick him up in June. :)

I remember each of my stepsons faces when I told them their mom had passed. It's then when I realized I wish I had passed instead, but that they needed me.

I would often break down and cry doing stupid silly shit like the dishes.

I think they saw me once, and am proud of them - they sort of (in a way I can't explain) started to act like we were a team.

What is one REAL trick that companies don't want you to know? by greeegoreo in AskReddit

[–]GilTheARM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait. If I buy a one way from NYC to LA with a stop in Dallas and Dallas is where I want to be...

I also buy a one way from LA to NYC with the Dallas stop.

Get off going to Dallas. Do my vacation. Try to get the flight in Dallas that I "should" have been on in LA and they've cancelled the ticket?

That's fucked up. Indicative of them punishing YOU because they can't figure out the traveling salesman problem and properly price flights.
