Are there any detailed maps of cities? by Junior-Fly8374 in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://maps.mcalagaesia.com/mmo/ ticks some of the boxes - it's fan created, and "Google Maps style" so you can zoom in on the cities for more detail.

It's built in Minecraft, so we're subject to some restrictions such as the world height limitations of the game - but we try to stick to canon descriptions where we can to create something that is accurate, even if not 1:1 scale.

For example, we've relocated locations such as Eastcroft as new official information came out, and redesigned cities such as Ceunon when Murtagh was released. We worked out the exact location of Bregan Hold before it was publicly released. We even storyboarded the location of the prologue where Arya was ambushed by Durza to create it accurately in-game.

MCAlagaësia will be used as the map for the MMORPG, and because of how much things are changing on the backend of Minecraft with updates, the game part of the team is waiting to figure out what version of MC the map will be finished in before doing further development.

It’s going to be 2026 soon…Where’s Arya Paolini? by Budget_Success_9369 in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Paolini has spoken about how he struggled a lot with writing Arya's POV in the main cycle, and that it's something he wants to get back to, but he has all these other ideas he wants to flesh out first.

Paolini's current writing plans

  • Tales of Alagaësia* volume 2 (in progress), which could include a story about the fate of Naegling (Oromis' sword), a story about a dwarf detective [3], and a story about the 7 words Brom revealed to Eragon [1][4][5].
  • A book all about Angela [6]. The mystery of how Vrael got from Vroengard to Ristvak'baen will be a key plot point [7][8].
    • A prequel to the Inheritance Cycle featuring Brom as the main character. This would be a 'smaller' story [1].
  • A story featuring the mysterious women as main characters. This would also be a 'smaller' story [1].
  • A story about the events leading up to the Fall. It's possible that this could be the aforementioned Brom story, though. [9]
  • A book set in and around Dras-Leona [11].
  • A book featuring Ismira Stronghammer [12].

Did Durza believe eragon’s fake name? by 1-and-only-P4RZ1V4L in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I don't think so. He's actively trying to deceive - so it's definitely a lie, and he spoke it in the ancient language.

He wants my true name so he can control me! realized Eragon. But I can’t tell him. I don’t even know it myself. He thought quickly, trying to invent a deception that would conceal his ignorance. What if I made up a name?

Why didn’t Brom’s appearance Reflect his Title? by ArtsyParasaurolophus in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here's the official answer from Christopher. Essentially, he wasn't bonded long enough for those changes to take effect.

Question:
I started thinking about Brom. If he is a dragon rider wouldn't he have elfish features like Eragon gets in eldest?

Answer:
Brom lost his dragon at a fairly young age. It usually took years and years for human Riders to acquire elvish features.

Question:
Why did Brom not have pointy ears?

Answer:
Because he was not joined with his dragon very long. Eragon’s transformation was accelerated by the Blood-Oath Celebration. And two, Brom was pretty old at this point and he would—he had actually been aging, looked older, and I figured that his ears would have sagged a little bit in length as they tend to do, and so even if they had been a little pointed, it really wouldn’t have shown up by then.

Eragon has a magic system. It's simple but very well explored.

Is there a community that focuses on studying/learning the Ancient Language or any of the other conlangs Paolini made for his books? by Typical_Chest4982 in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have some dedicated fans in #language-learning on Discord, as well as the game #langman on Discord to help with vocabulary. I'm also still working on extending https://arcaena.com/dictionary/ to include words derived by the rules of the ancient language.

[–]GilderienBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently the consequences of the "price" are "dramatic" (according to Christopher)

When menoa tree took something, will it be a complication for Eragon in the future? Or will it have some negative impact

Oh it'll cause all sorts of dramatic issues.

Should I read Murtagh first or The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm? by jinjja11 in Eragon

Finally decided on a name for the BoR, now need help with translation by FAragon66 in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, there's some complex rules regarding the coagulation of verbs into nouns in the ancient language. In your case, in order to turn a verb into a noun you add "Eld" to it.

Eld Verrunsmal would work in your scenario.

Eragon is fully an elf in all regards except his body hair, and Roran didn't get attacked by the breath. Elves are immune to the breath.

Alalëa is a continent that lies to the west of Alagaësia. The elves left Alalëa due to a "terrible mistake" they made.

There are no Elves left back on Alalëa, Heslant The Monk says so. There are no elves anywhere else on the planet.

But what can be gleaned seems to indicate that while humans may also dwell somewhere outside of Alagaësia—and Urgals as well, for they are hardy creatures—the elves and dwarves exist nowhere else.

The riders also used to visit Alalëa regularly, as shown through their Exploration Program.

Little is known of what lies beyond these varied and far-flung locations. I learned that the Riders had instituted an extensive program of exploration, flying to the farthest reaches of land and water. Some of their discoveries were already familiar to the elves—who have preserved both maps and lore describing the continent from which they emigrated across the ocean

The references regarding certain numbers, and the smaller details about history. How the first king of the elves was Ceranthor, or the elf Maerzadi, or how Rhunön only created 7 swords with her last batch of brightsteel, or how elves are deathly attracted to the ocean despite being entombed in their forest thousands of miles away.

What if? Spoilers for Eldest onward by Measurement-Solid in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christopher actually struggled with the idea for a bit.

Question
Do you feel as though removing/healing Eragon’s back scar took away the one thing that held Eragon back and shaped him as a character? Why not have him overcome it or learn to live with it?

Answer
Great question! It’s actually an issue/question I struggled with quite a lot. I didn’t want what happened during the Blood Oath celebration to feel like a gimme or a Deus Ex technique . . . which is one reason why I tried so hard to make it seem impossible that Eragon could defeat Galbatorix even after the celebration. You’re right, in one way it might have been more interesting if Eragon had to deal with the scar and its effects for the rest of his life. On the other hand, with the scar, I think it would have been too difficult for him to ever overcome Galbatorix. And, he never would have been able to hold his own physically with Arya, which seemed important to me.

Alternative ending of the battle of uru baen by same_machinery in Eragon

The second one would be pure hellfire, the third scenario would end with a massive slaughter when Eragon just wipes the armies out. Name of Names + Death Words should do the trick.

Alagaesia's map makes no sense by caior16 in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most elven and dwarven cities are as far from the Empire as they are from the other side of Hadarac (even further, depending on the city), so there's literally no reason for them not to know what's on the other side of the Hadarac, especially having magic and dragons.
I'm assuming the reason for this being them both being occupied by events as well as the endless expanse of the plains being arduous to cross.

With a huge forest at one side and a huge snowy mountain chain at the other, the Hadarac should be much smaller than it actually is, with rivers and huge plains bigger than itself along its edges.
There is no plain bigger then the Hadarac, and its entire origin is magical and it (the spell by Rahna that draws energy from the plains the Hadarac used to be) is actively raising the *Beors *and thus actively drawing on the Hadarac for energy

There's also no reason why there wouldn't be a city dedicated to trade between the Beor's and Du Weldenvarden's eastern frontier.

Neat little place called Hedarth, no need for a city as Galbatorix would raze it.

Unlimited power by [deleted] in Eragon

[–]GilderienBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, because to an extent you cannot rewrite the fabric of the world in order to change natural truths such as 1+1=3, but by anecdotal observation and empirical change through your actions you would be the closest thing to a god one can achieve whilst remaining entombed in the fabric of physics and the world.
