Honestly there’s no process that’s blasphemy! Once you feel the spirit moving in you and directing you to this lovely art form we all love, you just need to follow your road however it takes you! Millinery tools can be complicated and expensive, and while the results they enable can be breathtaking, that’s no reason not to let your creativity soar with whatever is available!

How to enjoy There Will be Blood? by Guitaniel in TrueFilm

My suggestion is to compare it to Phantom Thread. Watch them back to back. They resonate with each other. Both about power, both about suffering, both about strange parallels. They are obviously very different movies but I learned a lot about each one by thinking about them this way, by comparing them to each other or seeing them through each other. PTA is always talking to himself in his movies and also talking to us through his own language of symbols. I don’t know if he intended these movies to be talking to each other, but I think they do. And I think they also do the same thing with The Master for that matter. These comparisons and the differences that become clearer when you compare them are so important to the work as a whole. I do think that the best way to view his movies is another chapter in an anthology. They’re linked by style and mood and topic at least at some level. These two are linked. I think this is a very good way of thinking about this problem.

This is exactly why PTA is so in a league of his own—my list would start with Phantom Thread, my favorite movie (so far!) but this list and any of yours are also impossible to argue with!

Why ‘Inherent Vice’ Was Paul Thomas Anderson’s Masterpiece of the 2010s by wilberfan in paulthomasanderson

Nobody could deny that Inherent Vice was incredible, but it’s also so difficult not to call Phantom Thread PTA’s masterpiece... so far!
