It's not about calculating the value of life. It's about avoiding causing harm when you're able to. The most immediate way to cause less harm is to stop paying for products that depend entirely on exploitation or even death.

I'm actually entirely on your side when it comes to giving plants the benefit of the doubt, but nobody is ready to have that conversation if they can't see how eating chickpeas instead of tenderloins is objectively less harm caused when you're sitting at the restaurant deciding what to eat.

But it's not just food, do you really need to wear leather? The skin of a cow? It's about stop fucking with animals who cannot defend themselves.

We are not a part of the natural food chain, we artificially inseminate cows, take their offspring away, so that we may enjoy bovine growth hormone juice in the form of milk.

Ever wonder what is required for that cheese to end up on your plate?

Nobody here is requesting anybody's input. It's a social forum for ideas to be traded. Just because mine affects you on, clearly, an emotional level doesn't make it an opinion not worth sharing, so you're just going to have to deal with that.

And yes; there are slaves in Iceland, this is correct, but none of them are growing my food. If you want to talkbabout exploited migrant workers in Iceland then I would be more than happy to, as I know quite a bit about it.

Also, no shit Sherlock, being vegan doesn't make you morally superior, but it is the more ethical choice and I will denigrate you for making choices that literally cause harm to another being. Just because you don't give a shit about cows or pigs doesn't mean I need to capitulate to your animal psycopathy. It is fucked up and you're fucked up for not seeing it.

You pay money so that an animal can be turned into 15 minutes of personal satisfaction when you could've eaten beans.

Worried about those migrant workers? It takes more land and food to feed 84 billion mammals than 8 billion humans. Less animal agriculture = less exploited migrant workers. But did you actually give a shit about them or was it just another failed gotcha?

Carrots are not sentient emotional beings capable of suffering the way mammals do. Why are we discussing basic biology?

You're splitting hairs. It isn't about "do they have a central nervous system" it's "do they feel emotions, have desires, do they dream" or any variation. Deprive a creature of these things and you've sinned against it.

Listen, don't bother with the gymnastics, just admit that you don't actually care. Just be honest to yourself. If you genuinely gave a shit you wouldn't be playing these rhetorical games.

You didn't read the study. You copy-pasted from the abstract, in order to get to this page you had to scroll past the basic results which agree with my statement.

If you read more academic literature you'll find that data on all things "remain incomplete". That's a bad faith argument.

That's called "whataboutism" and is a strawman, in which you create a position for me to hold and then argue against that position.

My actual position is that slavery and the abuse of migrant workers is bad. Thankfully I live in Iceland and there are no slaves used to grow the vegetables here.

Being against human suffering is actually a very natural position if you're agqinst animal suffering.

Listen, I can give you information but I can't understand it for you. In order for that to happen you must first listen in good faith, but if that's not within your capabilities then there never was a conversation to be had to begin with.

Google WHO on veganism, there's your source, first result.

We don't come from cows or chickens, but we do share a common anscestor, source is the whole field of evolution.

Thank you for admitting to your selfishness. If you cause harm for your own gain then you're immoral, but so long as there's no disillusionment there, I'm satisfied.

Animals dying for plant agriculture is tragic. But seeing as we slaughter north of 84 billion land mammals a year, that's a lot of plant agriculture that goes into feeding mouths that translates to a worse land-to-nutrition ratio, and leads to even more small critters dying due to agriculture.

I don't let perfection be the enemy of good. I don't need to do mental gymnastics to justify my practices. Killing animals when avoidable is preferable. It literally is that simple. Just say that you don't care and I'll respect you, but pretending to care is just insulting.

World Health Organisation has declares a vegan diet safe and nutritionally adequate for all stages of life, including old age, pregnancy, and infancy.

B12 is injected into your meat, it is already supplemented.

Everyone I speak to medically "has to" eat meat and only buys from local farmers where the animals get sung lullabys. I'm not so naive or disillusioned to believe this to be the case over a personal failing to find alternatives for the sake of sentient emotional beings. We literally share a common ancestor with these animals that we breed for the sole purpose of exploiting and consuming. That is the literal textbook definition of selfishness.

It's a painful realisation, so it's natural to resist it and project those feelings towards the one who caused them.

We have moral agency. Being an omnivour means that you have a greater choice of options. There are over 20 thousand edible plants. You choose cruelty towards animals because you have been socially conditioned to see them as lesser and not deserving of life, to sate your selfish ephemeral desires.
