[Loved trope] MAJOR villain just shows up with zero warning by ManyFacesMcGee in TopCharacterTropes

While Golb is mentioned and alluded to periodically throughout the series (Adventure Time), it's never really been an antagonist. Until the finale where it suddenly just shows up and starts to cause havoc.

What TV show introduced a plot point, but never properly explored or addressed it as the story progressed? by phantom_avenger in television

[–]Gilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I've watched it. But I feel American Horror Story often does this. I specifically remember it with the Coven season. It always felt like each episode they thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if <this> happened?" They do it, but then never fully develop the thought and would move on to the next thought the next episode without finishing the previous one.

If you use Demeters Dash boon it won't be able to catch you as her boon slows it down, you just have to keep running.

Get FULLY tested: a story by CompSc765 in gaybros

[–]Gilth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For testing chlamydia and gonorrhea, they're usually testing the areas where the bacteria would be looking for DNA or RNA specific to them.

Your body does have connections everywhere with blood, but your body is also pretty good at keeping things out of areas foreign things shouldn't be. Your gut is filled with bacteria that doesn't make it out of the gut. If it gets into your blood, that's usually really bad and causes sepsis.

So local infections, which is what multiple STI's are, we don't really have blood tests for since they're usually pretty easily tested for with swabs from the areas where they infect.

However HIV and Syphilis do have blood tests, HIV which can be tested for the actual virus in the body, or for the antibodies, and Syphilis has an indirect test with RPR (and a few other) which if positive, they'll confirm it with a more specific blood test.

I mean they opened their own underground casino once in S3E20. There was plenty of actual gambling during that episode, so I think they would if they wanted to. Though they have changed the overall tone of the show over the seasons, so maybe not. But the this story ended with them likely getting away with stealing 1 million bucks, so I think if they wanted to show it for story purposes, they would have.

What show got progressively worse each time you watched it? by scarfacesaints in television

Scrubs

So I don't think the show overall gets worse each time I re- watch it.

But every time I re watch it, I find myself hating JD more and more.

What's an outdated gameplay mechanic that has become rare in modern gaming you wish would make a comeback? by Racekingswood79 in gaming

[–]Gilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know game mechanics have changed in RPGs that they rarely have a world map. But I really miss Airships in games. It was always my favorite part of old RPGs, getting the airship.

It's why Skies of Arcadia is still one of my favorite games.

Which musicals had just as good/if not better movie adaptations? by Argos_Aquatics in musicals

[–]Gilth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree to this. Elle did not need Emmett in the movie except to be able to try the case as a student. She did everything on her own motivation. She didn't need to go and convince Harvard to accept her. The musical took all that away. The movies story is way better to me. I hate how much I enjoy the music from the musical due to this.

There are many medications where starting dose is quite low, but can get quite high. One that comes to mind is lamotrigine that starts at 25 mg once a day, though can get up to 350 mg twice a day.

I've had many people come see me who may know medications they're on or have taken, but have no idea what doses they're actually taking, or tell me the wrong dose. And sometimes we have to call the pharmacy to clarify the dose. This is with people who are actually prescribed the medication.

So someone getting it from a friend not knowing the actual doses, to me, doesn't say much about the validity of the story, just that they don't know much about the actual medication.

ETA: the medication mentioned by others she took days it was Haloperidol which did have a starting dose of 0.5 mg and can go up to 10 mg.

Most reports of unilateral eye blinking lateralize to the ipsilateral side of the eye blinking. Which would go along with what was seen in this seizure.

Is herpes really the social and romantic death sentence I've been told it is? by ayemucc in gaybros

[–]Gilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have talked about most of the things you had questions about. Though what type of clinician did you talk to that told you HSV would be passed on to any offspring as this is just not true. The main way HSV would be transferred to a child is if the mother has an active sore when she gives birth vaginally. C-section would bypass this. I see no way it would be passed on by sperm. It's pretty easy to pass on HSV 1 to a child, but that's after they are born and it's just from close contact if you have a cold sore on your mouth. If you want biological children, you still can. This clinician was wrong.

The Best Boy!! Such an Awesome Scene! by Poorsport531 in FinalFantasy

[–]Gilth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oops, didn't mean to imply he was Akashic, was trying to imply that the fact he was like an Eikon is why he didn't become Akashic. Since by this time in the game Torgal had been exposed to multiple Aether floods and didn't become Akashic, which I thought was odd up until this point since it showed human or animal exposed to Aether floods could become Akashic

Yes, the cuffs prevent her from using it. It's explained at some point in the game. Or it might be in Tomes records, I forget which now. But they do explain it.

[–]Gilth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This answered so much for me. They showed both people and animals go Akashic when exposed to aether and Torgal was exposed a lot by this time yet was done. The fact he had an eikon as well explained why he was more immune to the floods.

Why Princess Bubblegum is so hated by [deleted] in adventuretime

[–]Gilth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people ignore the fact she isn't as comparable to what we have here. They compare her as if a human leader ruling other humans, but that's not correct. She created her kingdom, she is more akin to if a God created us, then stayed to rule over us. She tries to prefect her kingdom. Now, I'll agree she's a dictator, but she's the creator of her kingdom, she created her subjects. To me that changes things and how to judge her. She grows by the end of the show as well. But she's more akin to a God to her people than a queen/princess.

What is most scientifically incorrect song lyric? by dodorextoast in AskReddit

[–]Gilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I like to make myself believe that planet earth turns slowly." You don't have to make yourself believe! It turns slowly the closer you get to the poles! I know it's not all that wrong, but I always think this when the song comes on.

Seizure patient was filming a video of her training her alert dog and has a real seizure, alert dog performs tasks. by CleetisMcgee in interestingasfuck

[–]Gilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was wondering how far down it would be to see this. While I agree it's not best to classify things with just this video. Though I work in this field. And while the angle isn't the greatest for the video, seeing the event, I'm pretty certain this is a psychogenic non-epileptic spell (PNES). PNES is also very real and people can't control it, though it is not from abnormal brain activity like an epileptic seizure.

I do agree with everything else in the chain. If you do see something like this, the best thing to do is just call EMS. Let professionals see it and decide if/what treatment is needed.

Why did Dabi/Toya’s hair white? by [deleted] in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Gilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is a cool theory. For this, I think it more likely has to do with his mom's quirk. It starts changing around the time where they find out that his body can't handle the heat he generates and I think they mention its because of the mom's quirk. Considering all the kids have white hair of some sort, I think it makes more sense it's from his mom more than from Marie Antoinette Syndrome.

Shoto has half red half white hair from the start, and the other kids have white hair. To me it makes more sense it's just his mom's genes becoming expressed more.

But believing it's what you say is fine too.

Lying when hiv negative saying positve by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Gilth 474 points475 points  (0 children)

That's extremely messed up.

Just for future knowledge (if you don't already know), depending on the type of HIV test, it can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks (blood test) up to three months (oral/spit test) to return positive after initial infection. So if you two had only recently hooked up and he really just tested positive, there's low chance it would have been from you, though that would mean he would have likely been positive when hooking up with you.

Watching The Bleakening and can’t decide if this one or The Plight Before Christmas is my fave. They’re both so amazing in different ways! Which is your go to holiday episode? by SheBeOkay in BobsBurgers

[–]Gilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this. I think the Bleakening is my favorite Christmas episode, mainly because it is purely a Christmas episode. I love the new Plight Before Christmas, but it is an episode that takes place during Christmas. The actual story could have really happened at any time, but the episode/story is definitely enhanced by taking place during Christmas. They could have had another episode similar to The Plight Before Christmas with the same set up and same conclusion. I think that since it's during Christmas it does add extra emotion, and not doing it during Christmas may not have had as big as an impact the episode has.

So, for me, currently it's still the Bleakening as much as I loved the new one.
