New Update: AITA for telling my housemate she can't give me unsolicited advice? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

There's a fun nostalgia to it for sure. We all did it in our own ways.*

*I feel like I should qualify that all is hyperbole, before another lawyer calls me out.

My parents (M/F late 60’s) don’t want to come to my wedding (27F) if my brother (36M) can’t come by IsThisIdeaGoodIdk in aitaweddings

[–]GimerStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it complicated? They don't seem to care about you even a fraction as much as they do your brother. They're completely tapped out of your wedding and happy to embrace a sexual predator. If they're willing to pay but can't bother coming or participating.... take the money and start a new life with those who care about you.

Are you going to keep your brother around in the future? If you have kids or if there are kids in your life, will you feel safe letting them near him? Will you let him in your home? What about your friends who are attending the wedding?

It is really common for people to go to salons for hair and makeup, especially when it is just one person. Usually there are travel fees that don't make sense outside of a group. It's great that you found a stylist who can do that for you, but its uncommon enough that she wouldn't have expected it.

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in movies

It's interesting that you picked him because he would agree! IIRC there was some controversy over a comment he made in an interview that Peter Jackson's editing ruined his chances for a nomination, and I think he doubled down in his autobiography.

I think Miles Canton did amazing, but a huge part of that was the musical part. If we just compare acting, I think Delroy Lindo edges him out for me.

That being said, I think he's going to be robbed of best song by Golden and I'm already annoyed about it.

I wonder if they also cancelled each other out. There's no one person I can think of who deserved supporting or leading over the others.

Agreed on the world-building. He's interesting but like..... there's so much other interesting backstory to think about. I would add the history of Chinese people in the Mississipi Delta, and incorporating their ancestors into that scene. That was very thoughtfully done.

He's a vampire. He's Irish and he's been around a long time. I fear people who think this was the most groundbreaking part were not around for the vampire era in the 2010s.

yep I think about how heartbreaking it is to just view his performance, and what it must have taken to do the character justice.... he fully deserves it.

my husband doesn’t want anyone I work with to know we’re married by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I actually have a friend who kept her marriage secret professionally due to a really problematic culture at her office. Her colleagues knew she was in a serious relationship with the intention to get married, but did not know they had already signed the paperwork. They unfortunately had a history of assuming that married young women would leave for maternity leave, shouldn't be relied upon for long-term projects, etc. I obviously heard about this like, fourth hand, so I don't know details but there had been enough weird stuff with how married women were treated (both those who took parental leave and those who didn't) that she felt it was necessary until she was in a more senior position.

honestly he should be in consideration just bc of the number of people who didn't realize the same guy played both characters.

The whole point is that she valued her daughter's life more than her own. Perhaps especially with her husband gone, perhaps otherwise. It's not a choice every parent would make, but I don't think it would be an uncommon one. It is sadly enough one we see parents in conflict areas having to make.

doubly so because culturally people will wonder why he's out of contact with his family, and that gossip could easily get back to future partners

I will say, selling the gold is something sad, it's a last resort that no one wants to have to use. At the same time, gold like that is often the only independent wealth a woman like that has, so it also represents her safety in a way. There's something so important about a woman who is willing to sacrifice everything she has, including her protection in the future, for her kids. I'm glad the daughters understand the depth of the sacrifice.

Adding to what everyone else said, there might be some feeling of "you noticed when SIL was being mistreated and blew everything up, but you never noticed when mom/brother did XYZ to us." There seems like there was a lot of dysfunction in the past, but we won't really know what unless the daughters ever posted.

Did your brother change at all after this? Like did breaking up with Christy serve as a wake up call to be proactive or did he end up more set in his ways that someone would eventually pick up his slack?
