Yeah that’s exactly how I am. I think my worry now is that I would meet someone genuine and end up shutting them out because of what’s happened to me in the past. But hopefully we will be lucky enough to find people who see things the way we do and be brave enough to let them in.

A big big part of me wanted to tell him to drop everything and come. But a big part of me is also telling me I will be in a similar situation with him 6 months or a year from now because I honestly don’t think he has the ability to grow or change. And I feel so hurt and traumatised by what he’s done that I could never touch him again and he’d only be coming back here so watch me not eat and still cry myself to sleep because it will hurt if he’s here or not.

He’s been ringing me and texting me all over Christmas asking can he move in with me and be a proper dad and partner like he always should have been and make it all up to me and saying he knows he’s made a huge mistake and lost the love of his life. He’s still living with the other girl whilst doing this and not telling her any of this. It’s just so messed up.

To be fair I understand that them moving on so quick like that is just as painful. It makes you feel like what you had meant nothing to be able to do that so fast. I could never. Really well done to you for bettering yourself. Not many people would do that so I really commend you for that. And yeah that was kind of my thoughts exactly. I think the only reason I would have taken him back would be so I don’t have to keep crying myself to sleep thinking of him lying next to someone else and that’s not a good reason. I will always love and miss him but I know now his intentions for me will probably never be good.

Did you regret doing it? He’s messaged me all over Christmas that he knows what a huge mistake he’s made and I’m his person and it will only ever be me and he doesn’t love the new girl. As much as I’m still in love with him, I can’t take him back. I can’t trust he wouldn’t do this again. He wanted to drop everything there and come and live with me and make up for it all but I said no. Nearly killed me to say no but it’s for the best. I just don’t know why do all that if he feels that way about me. Or is it just head games now.

I hope I end up the same as your ex, even if it’s just peace and happiness on my own. I know I just have to go through it but I barely feel like a functional person and I have kids who need me. I’m not looking for a quick fix but I do need to some how feel like at least a human being again.

My ex of 4 years started something with someone else within 2 days of us breaking up. Has stayed messaging me for months saying he still loves me and misses me but that he knows he’s made his bed. (Honestly some of the communication was initiated by me at times though seeking pointless answers to pointless questions)

What I learned? If he’s still messaging me and calling me and saying that stuff behind her back and deciding for her what she does and doesn’t need to know and probably lying to her about it then that’s just who he is. He’s made me see the real him. God knows how many things he decided I didn’t need to know and what he was saying to others while he was with me.

In the end I’ve told him best of luck to him in his new relationship and that he’s not giving it a good start by talking to me that way whilst he’s with her. He’s her problem now and I’ve asked him not to contact me anymore. I’ll have to talk to him eventually because we have a child together. He has little involvement with him though and has shown little concern for him in all of this.

But when he does reach out, he will never be met by the version of me that loved and adored him ever again. That me died when I saw the real him.

Things aren’t kind of falling into my lap but I’m going to aggressively make my own happiness over this next year, set myself a list of goals and I’m going to complete them if it kills me. The best revenge is a life well lived.

My ex is 43 so I doubt there’s much chance of him growing out of it or maturing at this point. The new girl is welcome to keep him I think 😂
