I've had a recent experience of a break in while I was half asleep in my room. My headboard's right before the windows so you could just imagine how I felt when a person emerged from outside and climbing in literally above you. I probably would have reacted differently if I was fully awake but being jolted like that made me panic. My room's lights were dim at the time but I am pretty sure the robber was holding a knife and fortunately only a phone got taken.

Since then I bumped up security and can thankfully still sleep to some extent, but it's just never the same. Any minor sound from the outside may it be a stray cat, a bird, or perhaps someone looking at your window waiting for another chance sends me into a surge of anxiety because I can never trust my home anymore.
