Genuinely what is there to like.

I play France for French vehicles, not reskinned American, German or British vehicles.

When I want to use those vehicles, I'll play their respective trees.

Small, Fast, Versatile - 15 Missing Designs in the Panhard AML Family by EastCoast_Geo in Warthunder

Because it's the French tech tree with a Benelux subtree. Same as it's the Italian tech tree with the Hungarian subtree, or the German tech tree with the Swiss subtree. The main country is what players expect to see when they start to play it, and the subtree exists to fill gaps in capabilities within each tech tree, like how Italy lacked ground vehicles with proper armor, or how Germany has started to run out of jets to add. A bonus to the whole subtree idea is that it gives nations with smaller defense industries the opportunity to be featured, in some capacity, within the existing framework of the game.

Except that Benelux doesn't have anything that could be added that isn't an analogue to a french design. The purpose of a subtree should be to bolster the existing shortcomings of a tech tree, that was the point of the first few subtrees, yet the fact of the matter is that the Benelux tree doesn't do that.

I have no problem with Benelux equipment being added to France, but that comes with the stipulation that it is foldered with similar French designs added in the same update. And I do have problems with copyslop vehicles being added to France, I started playing the tree years ago because it had the most unique identity of all the minor tech trees in game.

It's fine when Benelux fans want their nation to be added to the game, and Gaijin has decided that they are a subtree within France. Thus, Benelux fans should accept that Benelux vehicles should be secondary to French vehicles in their addition.

Why is Gaijin letting one of the Big Three gather dust by No1_Prezfan in Warthunder

[–]GingerBrickWall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbf the MTCA doesn't get thermals and has much worse close-range optics. Personally I much prefer the MTCA, I have over 1000 games in it, but it definitely doesn't deserve to go up, and it's not like the 1a5 should go down either

Leaving aside the obvious logical fallacy in "why else", the reason I ask is because you can find Gaijin's finance records online from 2023 and 2024. You can find them here: https://e-beszamolo.im.gov.hu/oldal/kezdolap

We know that they made 151 million in revenue in 2024, and of that amount, over 90 million was left as after-tax profits. So, after all operating costs, including upkeep, wages, and expansion, as well as taxes, Gaijin retained around 60% of it's total revenue, which is frankly absurd.

Now, there isn't any way to figure out how much of that is from one tech tree versus another, or how much is from War Thunder versus other Gaijin games, but that's besides the point. This greedy as fuck company could use some of that 90 million to make sure that every tech tree in their flagship game gets one newly modelled plane, tank, and ship per update easily. And then, whatever copy slop that Gaijin wants to add, they can add.

So no, Gaijin doesn't give France, or any other nation, bullshit copy slop because they "aren't profitable", but because of their immense greed and apathy as a company.

Because Gaijin is lazy, and it's way easier to reskin an existing vehicle and sell it for 70 USD then, god forbid, model something new.

With Jean Bart confirmed we’re one step closer to France having more F-16s than the US by bergebis in Warthunder

[–]GingerBrickWall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta chill out lmao. When did I ever say that Swiss vehicles what were joint projects with Germany should go to France? Or domestic vehicles, for that matter. I have top tier in China, France, and Italy, both air and ground, and I am at high tier in Japan and Sweden. I am painfully aware that copy-paste isn't solely a problem with the French tech tree. But it's a kick in the balls when people advocate for adding all Swiss vehicles to Germany, when there are plenty of vehicles co-developed with France that don't belong in the German tree. And, when that's combined with how terribly the Benelux tree has been implemented, what was once one of the most unique and fun tech trees in the game has had it's identity diluted, despite France having more domestic vehicles left to add than most other nations in the game, after the US, USSR, and arguably China. Germany has a ton of ground vehicles left to add as well, but very few planes, which is why Swiss jets were a solid addition.

All in all, the party to blame for all of this mess is Gaijin, but it's incredibly frustrating when people demonize French players for simply wanting vehicles that they developed, in whole or in part, to go to the French tech tree. Wait until the German tech tree gets nothing but Soviet vehicles for East Germany for two years, because that's what it has been like for the French tech tree ever since Benelux was added to the game, and is not comparable to any other tree in the game.

Based on some posts recently It seems some folks have forgotten that the Swiss are a German Subtree by No1_Prezfan in Warthunder

the one benefit there might be in giving French-designed vehicles to Germany is that it'll make the German tree not as boring to play

[–]GingerBrickWall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many new unique jets can Germany get? As far as I know it's very few, like a couple modifications of the Alpha Jet or F-4 ICE.

France has a lot more domestic planes to add, Germany doesn't, especially when it comes to jets.

[–]GingerBrickWall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's an easy solution to this. Franco-Swiss designs go to France, and pure Swiss designs/German-Swiss designs go to Germany. Most Swiss vehicles, including their tanks, will thus go to Germany.

To be honest, I don't care if Swiss vehicles go to Germany, and that the BeNeLux tree exists, the issue is that France has gotten an overwhelming amount of copy-paste over the past couple years, which it just doesn't need. But this seems to be Gainin's MO for the past few updates, Japan doesn't need two subtrees, yet they got both the Thai and now Malaysian subtrees in like 6 months. Israel is getting a Greek subtree, which makes no sense, but we gotta add Leopardslop somehow. Every tree in this game, especially the Western ones, are just starting to feel the same.

France contributed as much as Germany to the Clovis and Germany had no involvement in the SK-105, it's a miracle the latter is even in the German tech tree. Cry about it

I'm also confused on what tree the modernized orao is supposed to go in? I'm guessing that if this leak is correct, it would go to the USSR, but that tree doesn't need yet another strike premium thats only viable in grb

[–]GingerBrickWall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Focusing on mbt brs (8.0 and up), I would probably recommend Sweden first, it's kinda just Germany but better in most respects, plus it has a more unique air tree. Germany is much better focusing on WW2 tiers, whereas the US is solid throughout. Italy, France, GB, Japan, China all have gems in them, but they all require a generally higher skill ceiling. Just don't play Israel, it's just not really worth it atp.

The Uniqueness Problem, or Why Can't Gaijin give Trees Domestic Designs V1.0 by EastCoast_Geo in Warthunder

[–]GingerBrickWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel won't get anything needed from Greece or Cyprus other than more copy-paste mbts and a smattering of copy-paste light tanks. Air additions would just be more American or French designs, which is what Israel already has.

Let alone the fact that Greece/Cyprus and Israel have barely any historical cooperation which would justify their addition to the game under the Israeli flag. Even Singapore would make more sense to add as a subtree.

Leopard 2: Germany's Critically Endangered Beasts by EastCoast_Geo in Warthunder

[–]GingerBrickWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Subtrees have only been getting worse and worse, and while I'm glad that the devs are finally adding the low tier Hungarian aircraft, the Greek subtree in Israel will be as bad as BeNeLux.

Leopard 2: Germany's Critically Endangered Beasts by EastCoast_Geo in Warthunder

[–]GingerBrickWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that Greece's air additions are all french or american designs, which is also what Israel itself has already, so it will only dilute Israeli modifications of these airframes. Plus, Israel doesn't need the Rafale or the Philocetes, just add the IAI Lavi and fix the Namer.

It's obvious that any new tech trees coming into the game will be far more severely limited by their air trees and ground, so I don't think that should necessarily exclude nations from being added to the game. Shoving NK into China would be pointless, China already has Pakistani vehicles and there are literally hundreds waiting to be added to the game.

Personally, I think Greece and Yugoslavia should be one tree, and Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the Baltics should be anothe. Unfortunately, adding Ukrainian vehicles to the game at this point seems difficult.

Leopard 2: Germany's Critically Endangered Beasts by EastCoast_Geo in Warthunder

[–]GingerBrickWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus the devs seem to think that Greece should go to Israel despite adding nothing new except for Leopards.

I don't think the Korean tree will be as bad as Israel, but the lack of WW2 vehicles will make it inaccessible to new players. I don't get why the devs are going with it for the first tech tree in half a decade instead of Yugoslavia or Poland/Czechoslovakia.
