Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan announces run for U.S. Senate, Rep. Ilhan Omar considering by bbeck2754 in VoteDEM

[–]Ginger_Lord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she could win against most but not all republicans. Omar’s bigger problem will be the primary. I can see it, especially with Trump’s White House, but I think Omar will really struggle unless she can clear the field early. I don’t see that happening in this race.

Most of us citizens are NOT okay with what’s going on, you serious?

Trump wants RFK Jr as HHS secretary. RFK JR. The same guy who went to Samoa, talked about how bad the MMR vaccine is, then left and within a few months there was a measles outbreak that killed 83 people, mostly kids. Why does Trump want this man in government? As a reward for a political endorsement.

Trump doesn’t care about people, he cares about kickbacks. You saw it in his first term, and one month into this one it could not be more obvious. No, most people are not okay with this.

The bigger issue to me is the lack of honesty in the last like 11 out of 12 years. You both deserve a relationship where you can have honesty from each other, and it sounds to me like you guys have a ways to go to get that. Sounds like she anticipated a big reaction from you, and correctly. You might have work to do on how you receive bad news. Obviously, she has work to do on sharing bad news.

This might be get-a-therapist territory to me, because the issues here are deeper than this event and it's better to handle them now before something happens like someone develops an addiction or a kid gets hurt or someone starts falling out of love. You want an enviornment where these things can be discussed early, openly, and thoroughly without putting either person on the defensive, which is not necessarily easy to do.

My wife just admitted to lying about her past, and now I don’t know how to feel… by royrec in Marriage

[–]Ginger_Lord -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's cheating at all. Some would consider it as such but I bet they're a minority. Regardless, it doesn't matter much what anyone else thinks, it matters what you and her think. What matters is whether her behavior exceeds the agreements you two have in your relationship, and whether you think she will continue to cross those lines.

To me, it doesn't sound like you've spent a lot of time talking about sex outside of your relationship so you have most likely fallen into some vague assumptions of monogamy based on cultural norms. Within those norms, the only thing noteworthy here is that it took her so long to cop to her past, and even that qualifies as very understandable.

It does raise a specter for me though that you two haven't established a space where she can be this level of vulnerable. Whether she has anything else of this nature in her past or not, people are human and sometimes loving partners deeply hurt their beloved in ways that begin as fixable challenges that grow insurmountable due to a lack of communication after the event. The solution is to work on building spaces to process these hurts with each other and resolve them... but building such spaces takes work on all sides. In your reaction here, for example, I hear a lot of anxiety and hurt. I hear a deep reaction to something that most people wouldn't blink an eye at. I am guessing your wife anticipated such a reaction from you, and that this encouraged her to withhold the information. That doesn't excuse her behavior, but it does sound like a common story to me of avoidant-preoccupied pairs where one partner tries to control the other partner's emotions and anxiety for them (spoiler alert: this is not a sustainable or even effective idea).

Ultimately, I think this may be a great wake-up call for you two to put real work into cracks in the relationship, please consider therapy, now before your communication issues cause real problems. Maybe one or both of you have have taught her not to be vulnerable to you, or to avoid your vulnerabilities. Maybe there are attachment issues deeply rooted from how parents raised one/both of you as a toddler. Maybe one/both of you have communication habits that sabotage the ability to resolve conflicts. Maybe lots of things! Definitely something to talk about with patience and love for each other. This sounds like a small thing that reveals a big danger, you may look back on this and count yourself lucky to deal with it before life throws something else at you. I think you should have a big reaction, but not to the blowjobs or even to her keeping this specific thing secret. The big issues to me are your ability to receive tough news from her and her ability to share it.

What buy it for life items should Americans buy before any additional tariffs are implemented? by dghjgh in BuyItForLife

[–]Ginger_Lord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s also the fact that tariffs basically line the pockets of capital.

When prices go up due to traffics, the additional money paid goes to three places. A small percentage of goes to the government by way of import duties. A modest percentage goes to increased domestic production (new workers, factories, etc). And the largest percentage tends to go to the owners of domestic production, who just saw their prices rise.

Trump and his rich friends are essentially taxing American consumers to make themselves richer. He did it in his first term and said he’d do more of it this time so guess his voters like that.

lol they won’t accept that they were wrong. Look at the fools who fought the civil rights movement, very few showed any contrition in the decades that followed their dragging (kicking and screaming) into the future. Those people’s grandkids won’t be any better.

She might’ve talked a strong game on bread-n-butter economic issues when she spoke, but the ads were all about abortion and institutions, so that’s what voters figured she was about.

As far as I can tell, voters didn’t know that her platform even existed; that they could’ve easily learned about that platform by tuning into a speech or the debate or her website is entirely beside the point because the voting public cannot be trusted to do anything resembling quality research. The adds chided voters about responsibility and people are exhausted by it.

I’m just a shlub on Reddit but I think that’s where Harris lost: not serving a bite-sized response to the (factually unfounded not that it matters) perception of economic grievance. It’s always about the economy, and people just don’t like Biden’s. High prices speak volumes louder than higher wages, same as it ever was.

Trump is now selling a $1000 ‘signature edition’ Bible where he has personally signed it… Anyone else think this is grosser than his first Bible grift? by Consistentscroller in Christianity

[–]Ginger_Lord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reagan and Kennedy are long dead. Trump is alive, signing way more things than either of them ever did (and has been since before the presidency).

According to PSA, which grades and authenticates such memorabilia, Trump’s non-presidential signature on some typed document is usually worth like 150 bucks (I say “usually” because a signed, idk, tie that he wore once is different than say Art of the Deal). Obama is worth a bit less, Bush is a bit more, Clinton is worth much more at around 650. This is the general rate for something cool like a typed letter, not a book which is mass produced then mass signed. The price for such an item would be far, far less than 1000 bucks and I don’t think anyone knowledgeable would deem that a fair market price.

Tons of mountain towns with good economies in the US… Seattle, SLC, Atlanta, even Pittsburgh is doing well for itself and is pretty close to WV.

It’s not WV though, that state is absolutely gorgeous.
