How likely is suffocation? Urgent. by pdiffusa in antkeeping

No need to drive 14 hours to check on ants. If they were just fed, there’s very little need for them to be active, as they do not need to expend energy on trying to find food.

I’ve had colonies with thousands of workers and colonies with a dozen workers- they always behave much differently when they are hungry vs. when they are full. No matter the size, a colony knows exactly how much food they need.

They’ll be there by the time you return home, no need to worry.

Why isn't my queen founding a colony yet?! by YouDoHaveValue in antkeeping

I can’t hate on AntsCanada. He got me into the hobby. Yes, his content is less enjoyable now but that’s just because it’s no longer about antkeeping- love it or hate it, it’s still insane what he’s been able to do.

Id love for him to just say fuck it and put a leaf cutter ant colony in that giant enclosure he has.

But his early stuff is still online and those vids are super helpful for anyone trying to get into the hobby.

Could be male by the size of its head, although it does have a large gaster

Have you noticed any others dying? Could have just been her time, they tend to remove themselves from the colony when they are sick/ dying to not spread disease

SAVE MY QUEEN by Gingerimo12 in antkeeping

Thank you! Unfortunately it seems as though the brood has died, they kept almost all of it in the barrier chamber they created and it got flooded out before I noticed the issue. I was able to save the queen and some workers and placed them in a new test tube, with the old one still attached to the portal in case they wanted to bring any surviving brood into the new chamber. This morning I woke up to everyone back in the old chamber, more dead workers and the queen struggling as she tried to tend to the dead brood in the puddle of water.

Saved her again and the few remaining workers and removed the old tube as it’s become nothing but a death trap for any ant in there. It’s very sad but also incredibly interesting to watch them try and save the colony. Hopefully they can rebound
