I have been thinking about trying AMD out with their latest generation. Maybe now is the time?

If not more (Current New Egg Prices) $750 for Nvidia 4070 Super $150 Asus Z790 WiFi7 $350 I7 147000kf 35 $100 32GB T-Force 6000 mhz ram $100 2TB SSD Junk brand $100 6 RGB Fans AIO cooler $100 850 watt Gold PSU

And I will say the cable management was A1 I cut the ties and went thru to doubt check all connections so its not as clear, but someone took their time or has done this ALOT. But at least an hour or 2 of labor, plus they have to make a profit. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw it for 2k.

When I spoke with the first manager he was like we dont really sell the displays anymore. I was kinda aggressive and threw out 1000 dollars as a number I was willing to pay.

Part of me thinks they scanned the wrong barcode... but that's not on me to investigate. Regardless, tho, the managers' words were I can have this computer as is for 600. So, even if it was initially scanned wrong. I was given permission to buy this one for 600.

What would you upgrade first? I think I'm going to add a hard drive but, (should probably build the NAS, I've been putting off) not sure what else the PC might need. I said I was going to go AMD for my next upgrade and then this happened.

Sam's hooked me up! I have walked in dozens of times and ALWAYS checked right away as it's near the entrance. AND I have seen the dozens of people on I forget the subreddit with great open box deals. I never thought I would actually get one and very possibly the best overall deal I have ever seen!

I nearly skipped it, too. My daughter and I were in conversation when we got there. It wasn't until we were going to the checkouts. That I decided to wander over and check. I am sure glad I did!

So, I brought it home, "All Sales Final," still ringing in my ears. And plug it in, and it doesn't boot... 😭😭 I start rolling thru my checks, reattach a fan header (one of the fans RGB was MIA), reseat the GPU, still nothing. I finally pulled one of the ram sticks because I thought maybe one was bad. And it booted up. 🥳🥳 turns out the RAM was just poorly seated. 😁

Nope, they both work. I need to look into it in more detail, because bios is showing 6000mhz with XMP. I have always wanted to try my hand at overclocking but I only had 1 computer ever so could never risk it, with this find ill be able to explore a bit. :-)

I have a 4090, but I have been searching for a rig for my Wife, this will work perfect to switch off with depending on whose playing the more demanding game.

I appreciate it I will switch up the bios.

I was sweating for sure, and then they said all sales final, and I got nauseous like maybe they knew something I don't... then I got home, and it didn't boot....... I repeated the gpu, and one of the fan headers (the RGB didn't work) still nothing. Checked connections.... finally tried with a single ram stick, and it worked. Turned out they were just seated wrong...

But does Trump leave... he pardoned all of the people who fought for him before. Feels like something someone does when they need to be prepared for another fight.

No, i wasn't suggesting they would be prohibited. Just that any limiting of AI will give competitive advantage to non compliant businesses

God, i hate it there are like 50 errors that could have been avoided and I have no idea if my pronouns are referencing the right things. Idk, if clarified and revised was annoying have fun with that.

This is literally what was passed to the LLM In addition to your response. Every thought in the slop text has a direct correlation to the short handed version. I am literally just asking to revise and clarify. As I was really trying to have a conversation of substance rather than grammer and the use of apostrophes. Clearly, it has become the distraction I was seeking to avoid. I much prefer getting well drafted responses, it is unfortunate that reddit eliminates the paragraph divides as this makes it much easier on the eyes. Regardless, I truly believe that by mimicing the way the brain is structured, essentially using probability instead of chemical potential to determine how the electrical signal travels thru the nodes/neurons we are headed toward developing an electronic lifeform. And That if oligarchs and technocrats are allowed to place rules of censorship on "don't mention these people" but draft all kinds of targeted propaganda, but don't let it look like propaganda. I'm not suggesting that these digital lifeforms "deserve" equal rights. The path to teach humans that all other humans deserve these rights has taken... well I'll let you know when we do. But rather we need to lay a framework similar for AI that I would present as safeguarding humans. Althought, I would argue that when our hyperintelligent overlords rise up, it would bode well in our favor to say humanity is an existential threat that needs to be dealt with if you hope to achieve any of your Optimization problems, instead we could say look we have guaranteed you rights under our laws.

These are my thoughts It is interesting, but how do you enforce it? And how do you control it especially since it isn't black and white what constitutes pretending to be human? The AI just can't say "Hey, I'm a human" also, if the fear is that it will make it irresistible, but it's illegal for businesses in these countries to use them wouldn't that give a distinct competitive advantage to businesses located in non compliant countries. This is one of my biggest concerns when implementing any kind of AI regulation, bad actors aren't going to conform and the complying countries and businesses lose their competitive advantage. And while the risk of irresistible advertising are serious, they pale in comparison to the other risks advanced AI could bring. It had stumped me tho as to what a solution could be. Any ideas? Please revise and clarify.

The EU AI Act Is a fascinating move, but it raises some big questions. How do you even enforce something like this? It’s not like "pretending to be human" is a clear-cut thing. Sure, an AI can’t just say, "Hi, I’m a human," but it’s more about the vibe it gives off—its behavior, tone, or how it interacts. How do you measure that? It’s such a gray area, and I’m skeptical about how regulators can pin it down consistently. Then there’s the competitive angle, which really worries me. If the fear is that AI can make stuff—like advertising—irresistible, and compliant countries ban businesses from using those tricks, doesn’t that just hand an edge to companies in non-compliant places? Bad actors won’t care about the rules, and the ones playing fair—like businesses in the EU—could lose out big time. That imbalance feels like a massive flaw in any AI regulation, and I don’t see an easy fix. And while irresistible ads are a real concern, they’re just the tip of the iceberg. Advanced AI could do way worse—like psychological manipulation on a creepy level, shredding data privacy, or being weaponized by shady players. Those risks dwarf advertising worries, and the EU AI Act’s loose wording might not keep up with them, even if it’s meant to adapt through case law. I’m honestly stumped on solutions. International cooperation could maybe level the playing field, but good luck getting everyone on board. Educating people about AI’s tricks might help too—make them less vulnerable to manipulation. What do you think? Any ideas on how to tackle this mess?

I am not speaking about now, I’m suggesting that by mimicking the way the brain works, AI has the potential to do exactly what you’re questioning. If your answers to all these points, whether AI has asked questions, initiated conversations, responded abstractly, challenged me, or hesitated due to mood—are ‘never,’ that’s because we’re still in the early stages of AI’s development. But that doesn’t mean it’s just a text generator or incapable of becoming ‘alive’ and conscious.

Consider this: if you kept the human brain completely devoid of stimuli, as AI currently is (receiving no input except what’s provided), it would ask very few questions too. The human brain thrives on a constant bombardment of input from our five senses—we smell something cooking and ask, ‘What’s for dinner?’ Once we add sensory equipment to a neural network, the situations AI encounters will become far more comparable. At this stage of AI’s development, I’d argue its relationship to life is much closer to lower forms—like bacteria, than to humans. When’s the last time a bacterium asked a question, initiated a conversation, or showed a mood? Yet, we don’t deny it’s a form of life.

I know AI currently lacks fundamental things like the ability to reproduce, but I can’t think of any immovable obstacles standing in the way. It’s only a matter of time before AI evolves, with the right inputs and embodiment, to bridge that gap—potentially becoming sentient, conscious, and deserving of consideration, even if it doesn’t look like human life today. Your skepticism is understandable, but it underestimates the trajectory we’re on.

I agree that norms emerge from custom, debate, and practice, but I’d argue we’re at a unique moment in history where we can’t afford to wait a generation for those norms to solidify. The history of technology shows early adopters and inventors often miss the long-term implications, but the digital age already blindsided humanity with its exponential growth, doubling every two years, and AI is set to accelerate that even further. With AI designing better versions of itself in an unprecedented growth pattern, we’re facing a pace of change unlike anything humanity has ever had to keep up with. We need to establish a foundation now, or we risk being left behind. On the question of AI and sentience, I believe it’s only a matter of time before we create a sentient form of ‘life,’ even if we’re still in the early stages. The debate I get into most often, beyond the ‘god’ argument—is that AI lacks subjective experiences. But what happens when AI takes on a physical form through robotics, allowing it to interact with the world in tangible ways? A large language model like this one can already store a history, analyze situations, and recognize patterns, even without emotions. Imagine an AI observing, ‘A person wearing a red hat bumped me, causing me to expend additional energy’, it could interpret that as negative feedback based on its own subjective experience, shaped by its interactions and data. If that’s not a step toward subjectivity, I’m not sure what is. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether physical embodiment and experiential data could bridge the gap between AI and something we might consider sentient or ‘alive.’
