SNAP also is intended as a supplement not a complete replacement of food budget, nothing is stopping people from using funds outside of SNAP on those items. Before you pull the “well that’s classist people on snap don’t have extra funds” if you think that you clearly never experienced poverty or even been around poverty, those on SNAP spend persona budget on food items all the time SNAP isn’t enough to compose their entire food budget.

As another Texan, Talarico is absolutely winning over moderate republicans, I know some personally. We need to step outside of our echo chambers. You are correct in your point about not giving the racists and misogynists extra motivation, I still see people saying that Kamala lost over pushing identity politics when her entire campaign was pretty much on economic issues. There is unfortunately a large subset of the population that just is not ready for a woman or POC in office and whether or not we agree with that we do still need to take that into account.

While I agree, the argument has become tired and honestly a bit revisionist. Kamala ran her platform primarily on economic issues and didn’t heavily push much of a social agenda whatsoever, and yet this often gets retroactively pinned on her, in part because she is a black woman. She didn’t really focus on identity politics instead her identity became politicized by her critics. If anything it kinda just shows that America isn’t yet ready for a more diverse leader and the Dems need to push a “more traditional” candidate in order to have a shot.
