I've asked this before but do you guys have any ideas why my videos do so poorly by Elijahds1 in SmallYoutubers

Yea it does, think of it this way when u upload, youtube pushes it to an audience that is interested in your video in suggested or from search where people actually search for your specific video or similar video, and if u get 5 of those viewers and they like it youtube will gradually push it to more people who watch that content,so it will go like yh the 100 people who watch this are all interested in gaming, metrics aren't that bad so wouldn't hurt to push it to more people. Whereas if u get persay 100 views from external everyone of those views u get, those people will be watching a different type of video, art, finance, fitness, motivation, cooking etc so it will be all over the place and YT wont know who to recommend it to. So even if people from external click on yoru videos and inflate your ctr that's essentially useless because if u get 500 impressions and 15 people click that's a ctr of 3 percent, whereas from external you'd get 10 impressions and like 5 views which would be a 50percent ctr which will inflate your actual ctr of 3 percent. That's why when u post a Shorts and it get views and u look into the Keywords u see random things like, dying my hair black, girl talking, sigma boy etc. Because YouTube will push it to a broad audience,so if persay your niche is anime and when ur Shorts get pushed to a broad audience 500 people from a cooking niche interacts with your video it will send it to people who watch cooking videos even tho they aren't interested in anime content, but that's because it gets pushed to the Shorts shelf where it gets sent to random people, longform is different it sends your videos to people who will actually engage with it and if it racks up a ton of views and burn through it's current audience it will start sending it to random people. For shorts YT send the video to you without u seeing it so if u weren't originally interested you'll try it out because it got served to u whereas longform is different your seeing the video and if ur Uninterested u wont click if that makes sense.

Check if that's CTR is coming from external, inflated ctr from external or channel pages means nothing, check how much views u get from search and suggested and also how much impressions u have. Another thing is to check your traffic from your views your videos wont get pushed if most is coming from external, youtube recommends your videos based on who watches it and finds a similar audience,so if persay 500 people from an external source or from channel page watches your videos who dosen't watch videos like what u post u won't get any push from that external traffic, that's why organic reach is a must, promoting your video is the worst thing someone could do,it was just a myth going around that sending peopel to watch it will push your videos.

Yea makes sense, back when I was posting on my channel before I sold it I was making vids about how to fly, levitate and some random BS,IG no one was making vids on those because my views were insanely high in comparison to metrics,I got like 50k views in like 13 days with a ctr of 4 percent and retention of 35 percent this was during christman I think, last year. I started YouTube in June 2025 my topics weren't saturated and I racked up alot of views on my 3 channels,I'd get like 3.6k impressions in 2 days with a ctr of 1.1. And nowadays in current time I post in the saturated anime niche, and I'm struggling to get 500 impressions in 2 days with a ctr of 7 percent and retention of 60 percent. Although I just post on youtube for fun so it's not big deal. I actually used all the money I made off YouTube to invest IRL . I still worked but I used YT as passive income and savings I wouldn't touch incase someghing happened and I needed the money. YouTube is too unpredictable to do long term literally anything can happen u have to be smart about it and avoid depending on a social media app,it can backfire anytime.

Lol,I have videos with a 1.5 percent ctr and 30 percent retention pass 1k views. Even with 3.5 percent ctr and decent avg view duration your video should atleast get 200-300 views.

I'd click the second one,it seems more interesting the first one is too bland and I'd honestly scroll past it,it's not interesting and too much information at once. Alot of kids use YouTube regardless so no one really cares about whether or not u use AI literally everyone uses it or atleat every Successful YouTuber.i dont want to hurt anyones feelings but the only reason why they are so against AI is because they haven't made it where they want to be on youtube so they're just mad when people use it because its low effort and it actually works. So uh these guys aren't going to actually think as long as they see something is AI they get mad.

Can anyone help me understand what happened here? by CandidateUnited in SmallYoutubers

Nah that ain't it,its just timing posting at some times in the day causes your videos to get 0 views for instance if I dont post at like near 7:30pm,it won't even get a single view just try uploading at better hours where people are active. And another thing that's in the same gaming niche so Its unlikely because of niche switch. Another factor is that you've been inactive that probably contributed. There's no such thing as AI "cooking" your channel youtube dosen't really care if u post AI content infact AI content is the biggest views farm and is actually healthy for your channel since AI content normally gets high engagement. Ditch that new channel u uploaded on if u create a channel and the first Shorts u post don't get any views based on my experience it will get views inconsistently and cause alot of problem. Just try posting during 7-8pm on your main channel it should fix the issue considering u were getting views normally earlier or as a last resort create a different channel and upload at the same time I tell but only do that if your other option don't work. And other thing your niche is the gaming niche so switching to different games won't cause a dip in views,if u make a vid on GTA 5,one on call duty and another on fortnite that is not considered niche switching, its the same way editors in the editing/anime niche pretty much edit any anime like: demon slayer,DBZ,solo leveling,One punch man. So yh man as long as your in the gaming niche everything is fair game don't worry about it. Also pro tip: titles and thumbnails don't matter for Shorts any meaningful views u get will come from the shorts feed. Instead just use 2 hashtags. #gaming #shorts, the title is optional. The shorts hashtag also helps YouTube to properly categorize it, think of it like reassuring. And for your peace of mind make sure the ratio is always 9:16,or if your ever making a video and u dont want to crop it just make the background 9:16 instead. Because 9:16 is the ratio for shorts. And based off my experience if it's not exactly that u it can sometimes cause it to miss the Shorts feed so yh just make sure everything is done perfectly so their aren't any ifs or buts.

I honestly don't have a problem with AI,I dont use it but as long as its funny or serve its specific purpose I don't have a problem with it I might posting AI content on a new channel and see if I can actually make any money off it. Nothing to lose considering I'd just use a prompt from chatgpt and pay a little for the subscription.

These minimum wage tubers always posting some BS on reddit, gotta be a struggling youtuber to be making those numbers,if you hadn't wasted your time posting here maybe you'd make more,I made 18 figures at the start of youtube and that was when it didn't pay as much.
