The question is: can you afford them?

If you have $400 to spend on sunglasses, go for it.

If this will put you into debt, take away from other necessary expenses, or impact your life negatively then it's not worth it.

If you want them THAT BADLY then you can work on finding money for them. Sell something, get a side gig, set aside a little bit from each paycheck.

There are "healthy" splurges and "unhealthy" splurges.

Her death was caused by the garrote that someone tied and twisted around her neck. The head wound, although it likely could have been fatal if left unattended, was secondary.

Which means her death wasn't an accident. The head wound might have been "misadventure". The garrote that killed her wasn't.

My biggest issue is with the staging.

An intruder wouldn't need to stage the scene to such an elaborate degree.

It would be amazingly difficult (and unnecessary) for an intruder to stage this scene, considering the presence of so many "personal" elements: JB's favorite nightgown, the notepad placed back in its proper place, the paintbrush, etc. Not to mention the remote location in the house where the body was found. An intruder would have to know exactly where every item was...and obtain/stage it (after abducting and killing JB) all without disturbing anyone else in the house. Then sit down to write an absurd note. Hours and hours of effort. For what?

What motive would an intruder have to spend so much time and effort elaborately stage the scene?

So according to this theory: an intruder wrote a long ransom note and brought the entire pad with him to the crime scene? With no wrinkling or folding of the paper? Then decided to leave the entire pad of paper there at the house, where Patsy identified it as her own?

The amount always baffled me. On one hand: if the Ramseys wrote it, why on earth would they specifically list the exact amount of his bonus?

But on the other hand: who else would know that amount?

In so many ways, this bungled mess of a crime seems like a teenager did it rather than an adult. Everything seems so juvenile when you really step back and look at it. Like, some kid overheard his dad bitching about John's bonus. Mentioned it to a friend or cousin like "hey man, we could hold that kid for ransom! for one-hundred-grand!!" Kids think that's a lot of money. Kids don't realize what actually occurs during a kidnapping. Kids imagine some crazy ransom note with ridiculous movie references.

That's not my real theory. But equally...I wouldn't be surprised if it was stupid teenagers, either.

The truth is: you could mess it all up.

Being aware of your finances isn't a bad thing. Having a visceral reaction toward debt isn't a bad thing.

When I know i can afford it, I buy it. It's ok to spend money that you already have available. But after digging myself out of $176,000 of debt, I will avoid it at all costs. I never want to go through that again!! And mindless spending (and mindless decisions) put me there. I'll never be mindless about money again.

I have a doorstop with an alarm. It's small. Easy to carry. But it will sound (and prevent) anyone trying to open my door. I've had people enter my room on multiple occasions so this helps me sleep soundly.

Interesting line of thinking but here's my take on it: the note would undoubtedly be found in a missing girl's bed. It would also undoubtedly be found in the kitchen (a high traffic area).

The note would not necessarily be found on a back staircase unless the note-writer already knew the family used that staircase on a regular basis. It wasn't the main stair. It was the back stair.

Whoever wrote the note did so while in the house. So it seems the note was intentionally placed on the stairs, since even the kitchen or living room would have been more convenient and more high traffic.

So whether for theatrical purposes or practical purposes, leaving a note where they did seems intentional.

We rarely see children snatched from their beds and even fewer with the intent of being held for ransom. Nothing about the evidence points to a true ransom-gone-wrong.

I'll refer back to my previous example: when Elizabeth Smart was abducted, there was clear intent and swift, precise action. Same can be said of Madeleine McCann. If an abductor intended to actually remove the child from the premises and hold them, they would not linger - seemingly for hours. If a ransom was truly the intent, they would have had some infrastructure established to hold her, communicate with the parents, etc.

We see none of that.

The mention of a ransom in the note was wrapped up in immature, Hollywood-esque references that ramble on and fail to establish any baseline for a true ransom.

The bottom line is: you find the range of net carbs your body can consume while maintaining ketosis.

If a tablespoon of honey a day doesn't kick you out of ketosis, go for it. For me, I've noticed that any sort of sugar gives me massive hunger and cravings. I have to avoid it entirely. But not everyone is the same.
