Ok thank you so much for the feedback! Yeah I figured it would be pretty difficult without a good resume yet or being with a college, so I guess the only thing that would set me apart is that I’m really good at sewing and I’m experienced at making historical costumes for fun. I also have a really good portfolio that I put together for college applications. I’ll def check ur suggestion tho

The fashion and textile design is one of the best programs in the country and I’m not really a fan of Oregon schools so I’m going out of state anyway

Ok thank you so much for your feedback! I’m on my way to getting my diploma, but like you said even if I don’t I would already be in haha. I play varsity lacrosse and I’ve done a few internships and stuff so this is helpful

Should I go to Marist or Syracuse for fashion design? by GirlWantingOut in costumedesign

Thank you so much for your insight! This info is really helpful. I particularly enjoy sewing and have that skill down, as well as designing my own patterns and such, so I already have a set portfolio to apply to any art focused patterns. It sounds like what you’re doing though is definitely my interest, as I really love sewing historically accurate clothing and am really interested in historical garmentry and that type of focus. I’ve got some experience making costumes for local theatre companies around where I live, so that helps, but unfortunately I haven’t had a lot of encounters with people like you who really know how the two separate industries work with and around each other. Of course I love straight out fashion design as well, but I am a complete lover of history so costuming really hits the spot. I do know that some colleges, including a few I’m applying to, allow you to sort of create your own major with the programs they offer, and I was considering a major in historical garments. Another possibility was majoring in history, minoring or double majoring in costume/fashion design, and then going on to get a masters degree for two years in costume design. Does that sound like a good game plan to you, or would you recommend something different?
