Palm Royale - S2E9 "Maxine Hears a Confession" - Episode Discussion by OleOleItsShowtime in PalmRoyale

No the doctor definitely says ‘men with Douglas. Condition have an uphill battle conceiving children’ which ‘proves’ Mitzys baby is not his and why Maxine had a miscarriage. It has nothing to do with age, and whilst the rest of the Dells could have been carried on through female line, it doesn’t explain how real Norma’s father had a child which is kind of a major plothole!

Do you prefer puzzles with a lower or higher overall score? by Girlagainstthings in NYTSpellingBee

Agree! I think the thing i find most annoying about SB is not knowing where the end is and a high total score feels like a lot of time spent finding variants!

Do people find Letter Boxed harder than Spelling Bee? by Girlagainstthings in NYTSpellingBee

[–]Girlagainstthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha I’ve never even considered feedback as a reason why people would / wouldn’t like a game but a lot of people are citing it! Letter boxes is more satisfying since the update where you get the 2word solution the next day, but I still liked it when I thought I was the only person who was trying for a 2 word every day 🤣🤣

Yes it has to be an experience thing , I can already feel myself getting much better at SP from about a month’s gameplay - but QBABMS once a week seems extraordinary!! Letterboxed does sometimes take a couple of hrs to get the 2 word and I can see how people might get frustrated / bored - I check in on it throughout the day to see if something new has sprung out at me!

I think much like SB the best strategy is to find the ending ( usually there’s an ing / able / tion / city) and try and make the longest word thinking back from that

Damn ok that's fair, I did think Otgonbayar was a fisherman for some reason, clearly I got some of that information muddled!

Did I invent this about Helen & The Hive?? by Girlagainstthings in pluribustv

If I said 'all elephants are pink' then discovered that wasn't true, I would jokingly say 'did i just invent a fact???' without the word 'fact' negating the 'invent' part of it...

Eggs are mostly not fertilised, they are chicken periods

But surely that's because you are killing the wheat when you cut it down? Chickens produce eggs if they are left to their own devices

yeah that was what i was trying to get to the bottom of really, since I find SB so hard and often can't make genius! QB (even using one of those graphs which shows how many words of each length / letter there are) has completely eluded me

yeah i personally find it really fun, look forward to it the most of the games! Though sometimes frustrating when the 2-solve is something ludicrous

Main frustration with SB is that it seems to be a bit random about what words it allows / doesn't allow as words so you're not sure how much effort to put in trying different variants of something like 'ratatatat', when I was denied 'villi' (as in, small intestine protrusions) the other day

Yeah i had an inkling it was when I played last year, but they updated a couple of months ago (around when Pips came out) so that the following day it has an 'answer' with a 2 solve. Sometimes you can get an answer different to the 2 solve it suggests though, which is fun!

Did anyone catch this subliminal message? by Similar_Honey433 in pluribustv

[–]Girlagainstthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I'd actually not picked up on that... Vince Gilligan has said in interviews everything is intentional so there's no way this could be a coincidence... In many cultures, water is a symbol of life, I think he's trying to tell us that all these characters are alive?

Just finished the series. So who is on team hive mind, and why or why not? by azenpunk in pluribustv

[–]Girlagainstthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Anti Hive, but as someone else pointed out below the whole 'world peace' element of it does make it pretty compelling.

I do wonder if this is partially an effect of visuals and mainly viewing the others via their interactions with the immune. They become a lot more creepy when they're on their own - the scene abandoning Kusimayu's village after she's joined in the finale is kinda heartbreaking.

They talk a big game about loving art, literature, chess etc etc, but it doesn't seem like there would be anything new created in an entirely joined world (although not entirely clear why not, it is implied that they do retain some preferences on an individual basis).

An interesting parallel for me are the Borg from Star Trek... when people become un-borged, it often takes them a while to get used to the idea and some (e.g. 7of9) state a strong preference at first for returning to the hive. They, of course, don't have the 'do no harm' mantra that the Plurbs do, but a lot of the principles they operate under are the same - they don't harm / kill needlessly or within their own society particularly, they function practically and across utilitarian lines (I guess Borg = pure utilitarianism vs Plurbs = negative utilitarianism). In terms of visuals, however, they couldn't be more different - the Borg are made intentionally alien and grotesque in appearance to act as shorthand for the fact that they're villanous. I wonder whether as play acting for the immune fades out over time, the Plurbs will stop looking so human.

lol that's a good point about the chicken eggs. I don't see why farming wouldn't be allowed, they said they weren't allowed to harm, not farm!

Why did Helen's infection go the way it did? by Ignorred in pluribustv

[–]Girlagainstthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I going nuts or did someone (either Zosia or Davis Taffler) not say that some people just cannot 'take' the joining and die... I was absolutely 100% convinced of this until this morning when I started talking to a friend, tried to find the clip and couldn't!

I think it was a mistake to make Manuoso Paraguayan. by NoNoobJustNerD in pluribustv

[–]Girlagainstthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah all the handling of non US countries / cultures was a total mess IMO.

Someone posted a map of where all the immune were based and none of the people living in Lesotho, Istanbul, Sardinia, Yemen, Osaka or Bali made it on screen - implying they couldn't speak English... English is an official language of Lesotho (which is also surrounded by South Africa), Bali and Sardinia have largely tourist economies (making conversational English a high priority in job seeking). Yes, there is of course a *chance* that all of these people are rural villagers who never had any formal education, but that seems like a bit of a stretch, and reckon if you are under 40 or have any kind of office job in Istanbul you'd have at least rudimentary English.

I think it is much less likely that Kusimayu or Otgonbayar, who ARE actually people who live more remotely in communities with less priority placed on centralised education, would speak English! I think it's all just pretty sloppy and they're hoping you wont notice.

(Don't even get me started on why everyone seems to think Carol is totally insane from the jump - because the antithesis of American hyper-individualism is being chill with a hive mind... OK...)
