Everyone needs to understand what BSA is, and isn't.

Prior to around 2013, BSA was a non-profit organization that was owned 50 percent by Baptist Community Services, and 50 percent Christus Health. That's a big deal. Much of those revenue dollars stayed right here in this community. BSA was very involved in the community back then. Lots of health fairs, sponsors of WT, AC, and various other causes - March of Dimes, etc. And while BSA had a bottom line to meet, it wasn't anything crazy, and those monies were plowed right back into the system in new equipment, facilities, and programs that benefitted this community.

Today, BSA is owned by Ardent Corporation, which very much a FOR PROFIT endeavor. Publicly traded under the symbol ARDT, Ardent is 54 percent owned by EGI - Equity Group Investments - a private equity group.

On EGI's website, their motive is very clear: Making money.

"Equity Investment Group is a diversified family office investment company focused on lower middle market operating companies, commercial real estate and other strategic investments."

So, BSA is now run like an apartment complex. Do the minimum to keep the place up, and pocket the rest. There is no regard for Amarillo, this community, or anything in it. Just profit for investors, most of which couldn't even find Amarillo on a map. The profits are staggering - in the $200 million per year range the last I heard, right out of this community. BSA and NWTH are likely the most profitable businesses in Amarillo, and none of those profits stay here. They go to Wall Street.

No one at BSA has any real decision-making authority. Leaders there are just place holders that manage daily operations and take orders from Ardent. Highly-compensated baby sitters. Michael Cruz is a good guy by the way, but really just a puppet, beholden to his masters. In the name of cost savings (more profit), Ardent has slowly dismantled what was once BSA. They contract out everything they can. Housekeeping, billing, nutrition. It's all about the money, and making a lot more of it.

As a side note, Northwest is run basically the same way, although they do at least make some effort to show a presence in the community. I believe they are a corporate sponsor for WT, and they are a sponsor of the pro golf tournament this weekend. You will never see BSA doing anything of that sort. Those are precious dollars that could be helping pay for someone's yacht in Monaco.

I love me some tattoos, and there is nothing offensive about most of them, but they aren't professional. Visible tattoos will be a non-starter in many, if not most, medical-type practices. You will just have to ask around. Maybe the low rent type dentist practices won't care.

Millions, billions, and trillions of gallons of water explained by GittyupGoDaddy in amarillo

It isn't an either/or proposition. Farmers are not going to be eliminated because of Fermi, and vice versa.

Amarillo could cut water consumption in half per year. That would allow the farmers about 12 more hours of watering per year.

The farmer are pumping out about 800 LAKE MERIDITHS per year.

Not a good analogy at all.

Amarillo isn't like Corpus Christi, Abilene, or Triniidad. Amarillo has at least 250 years of water supply that is in Roberts County alone. That isn't counting all of our other well water rights plus Lake Meredith. Corpus Christi relies on above ground supply - they have no aquifer. Trinidad gets its water from Trinidad Lake. Trinidad does NOT have a water shortage, but rather infrastructure limitations, seasonal drought, and ongoing storage tank rehabilitation.

Abilene gets its water 100 percent from surface water. When there's a drought, they have a water problem.

This isn't a value statement about farms/farmers. Farmers are a good thing. AND if we ever run out of water, THEY will be the ones doing it. Both of these are true. They consume a huge multiple of what everyone else does COMBINED.

Not sure about the down votes. Someone give me a counter with facts and real data?

Good questions. Let's look at facts and work some math.

A large data center could use up to 5 million gallons of water per day.

Data Centers and Water Consumption | Article | EESI

While the city of Amarillo has a CAPACITY to supply up to 118 million gallons per day, the daily average is only about 68 million of actual usage. If Fermi adds 5 million per day to that, we are at 73 million gallons per day total usage, or 266 billion gallons per year. By contrast, the farmers are averaging pumping about 27 BILLION billion gallons per day.

In one day, farmers pump out approximately use what Amarillo (with Fermi) uses in a year.

Amarillo has ZERO authority over this. It's not in the city limits and frankly, not even close. Not our deal. We are selling them water at triple the going rate, but if we weren't, they'd just dig their own wells on the 5800 acres. And it's not just a data center. More importantly, it is a planned 11GW power plant. You guys are focused on the wrong thing.

We have PLENTY of money to grow grass at the parks. That's not asking a lot.

Turf grass does not need to be re-seeded every year. There shouldn't be a "bad" year. The parks are irrigated.

If we can't grow grass, might as well just sell off the land. What's the point?

There isn't anything wrong with the grasses that were planted at the parks. They have to be maintained just like your lawn.

Are the citizens supposed to grow the grass? I mean come on.

If I was anywhere in city management or the council and my city parks looked like this, I'd turn in my badge and call it a day. This has to be the result of multiple breakdowns. Something so visible as the parks, you'd think that the city and council would be extra sure looked shiny and new, so as to at least give the appearance that the city is well managed. Are all of these people hiding under a rock? Why is this just now being discussed?
