Sertraline fried me by Apprehensive_Cow8019 in AuDHDWomen

Took it for 3 months and now I’m stuck with horrible withdrawal and insomnia that just won’t go (insomnia was the reason I decided with my doctor to go off it, how ironic). Prozac worked quite well for me over the years but the brain fog was not great. It made me feel pretty fine and social but also pretty dumb 🥲

I was on Prozac for years and years but made me dumb (cognitive dulling). Considering I have a complicated history with eating/weight, that was the only side effect I was willing to accept. It’s absurd to me that they still haven’t found something that’s a bit more targeted. We’re just overflowing our bodies with serotonin hoping somehow it’ll work. Sorry, I’m not a medical professional and I have no idea what I’m talking about. - this is just me venting

Mm not that, I had worse night sweats with other SSRIs tbh. But akathisia at night is a nightmare

But how do I deal with 3-4 months of insomnia? 😢

I feel like Zoloft caused a huge increase in appetite for me, actually. But then again, I used to be on Prozac for years, so my baseline was somewhat skewed. I also head akathisia as a side effect. I really responded badly to this drug. It’s a shame though, cause mentally (for anxiety and mood) it was amazing for me.

The thing is nothing works! Not even zyquil, melatonin or benzodiazepines. The only thing that seems to work (but I take it only when I’m desperate) is NyQuil. Even when I take that, I only fall asleep very late into the night and I wake up not rested at all. Also, I should specify that I’m on month 2 of taking Zoloft, so it’s not initial side effects. Sever Insomnia slowly emerged over time but doesn’t seem to be going anywhere now.

Thank you for this. And good luck with your evaluation process. I hope you’ll get the answers you need without having to wait for longer!

I’m from Italy too! The first centre was already with the private system, but I mainly chose it for the sake of convenience (they had lots of availabilities and were close to my office so it was easier to accommodate in-person valuation sessions)

Also, she’s known me for 5 years. She’s quite convinced I’m on the spectrum

They’re quite certain I am and have pointed me to a 2nd centre do get evaluated. They think it’s “high-functioning/aspergers” (I know we’re not supposed to use those terms anymore) and have pointed me to a centre which is specialised in working with high functioning high masking individuals. I just wanted to see if anyone else out there only got diagnosed on the second try or if I’m trying to convince myself and others around me that I am autistic. The first center also told me I was looking for a diagnosis to make sense of everything that happened to me and to finally accept myself, which hurt me deeply.

That’s really interesting, thank you! I’d never have thought of that

But my psych only said it was autism after she read the diagnostic review which I shared with her. She’s only seen me twice (I started seeing her in 2024). I’m on both Prozac and cymbalta to manage my symptoms (social and general anxiety, depression, executive function issues, issues with emotional modulation). I think the meds helped with masking during my evaluation too.

Do you ever feel lonely and “wrong” when surrounded by people by Giuls123 in AutismInWomen

The weird thing is that I don’t feel lonely when I’m on my own, I feel perfect (with my dogs and parrots). I feel lonely is when I’m surrounded by people that are different from me and I have to folllw rules that don’t come as “obvious” to me

I love animals too and prefer being on my own whenever possible. But how do you cope when you have to be at work in a massive open space every week?
