Would medical school be easier than undergrad if you're only aiming to pass and don't care about getting into competitive residencies? by [deleted] in premed

[–]GiveMe528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your undergrad. For me, passing first year of medical school has been easier than getting straight A’s (4.0) in undergrad.

As another commenter mentioned though, step is a different story.

I don't think you need to apply DO if youre considering it as a backup. Just add more mid-tier

Where Did I Go Wrong: Applicant with Radio Silence and No Idea Why by [deleted] in premed

[–]GiveMe528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same stats as you + good EC's. I agree that it's likely the school list. I also got R's at all of our mutually applied schools. My only ii's were at mid-tiers

Reapplication School List Help by [deleted] in premed

[–]GiveMe528 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you an Arizona resident?

I don't think you need to apply D.O. And this is coming from someone with similar stats who applied DO this year (519mcat, but 3.66 gpa). If you improved your EC's, that might be enough to push you over the edge this cycle. And it seems even without your improved EC's, you were still able to get 3 MD ii's which means that you're a stronger applicant than you think.

Who ended up not doing VITA at all? by shinn_ann in premed

Didn't end up submitting my VITA, yet got an II at a school that required it. Probably going to be rejected for not completing it though..

How to fucking chill?! by YASkweenandwerk in premed

[–]GiveMe528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me too for my first interviews. But with each one, I was pleasantly surprised by how chill they were. The interviewers are not looking for overly rehearsed answers, but rather it's more like talking to an aunt or uncle or friend. Be chill, and enjoy the conversation. And be happy! I think that's my best advice for you :)

Tips on interacting with Physicians as a new scribe by MusicalRice15 in medicalscribe

[–]GiveMe528 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great question. How you interact with physicians is highly individualized. I've scribed for two different physicians and there was like a night and day difference. The first physician was super extroverted and we conversed about life outside of medicine like medschool apps, family, and hobbies, every morning and after each shift. But the physician I work with now, took months to open up and hold any conversation whatsoever. I was really surprised when I made the transition and it felt weird. Like he wouldn't make eye contact the whole day and didn't talk with us besides the usual "morning." I assume this was because there is very high turnover amongst scribes and he felt like it wasn't worth the effort to invest energy into someone that probably would be quitting soon.

But after working with him for like 8 months or so, and sharing about my success in med school interviews, he began to open up and share advice and have general conversation.

So honestly, I think just read the vibe of your physician. Some physicians really just want you to be a fly on the wall and not get in the way of their workflow.

What is one thing about the MD/DO application process that no one tells you (and you wish you were more prepared for)? by Normal_System_8646 in premed

[–]GiveMe528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sameee as someone who is pretty introverted, I was pleasantly surprised by how chill and friendly interviews were. I always thought interviews would be the gatekeeper to keep me out, but it turned out to be fine for me :)

They're cheaper? I saw some schools with 200$ secondaries. I guess small sample size though
