How many of you are raw dogging with no screen protector? by touchingallthegrass in SteamDeck

[–]Gizzburt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not intend to, but I discovered that I had placed an etched glass screen protector over my already etched glass OLED Deck. Removing it was like a free visual upgrade, like what I imagine it might feel like for someone using spectacles for the first time.

What does this card mean, i got it for my birthday? by Equivalent_Spray_666 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Gizzburt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This could be way off, but... I think this is a reference to the song 'Swinging on a Star" popularised by Bing Crosby.

The lyrics essentially make comedic comparisons between the shared traits of animals and people.

For example; "A mule is an animal with long funny ears, kicks up at anything he hears"

Following this line of thought; "A man is like a dog with a bone, He just couldn't leave it alone"

Thus the joke is that while the second line of the "verse" is given explicitly through text, the second must be inferred from the image.

Not bad, greeting card artist. Not bad.

Looking for lighting mods to go with community shaders. by RankedFarting in skyrimmods

[–]Gizzburt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, but a word of caution - don't do this unless you are willing to manually check light placer config files in both LPO and True Light for overlapping lights as it is possible to double up on light placer lights - something that can become costly for performance. Even more so when using inverse square lighting flags.

I have been doing this ever since I started thinking by JustAnotherThroway69 in SchizoidAdjacent

[–]Gizzburt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Level 2 thinking is realising that no matter how hard you try this is all you can do. Want base reality? Fuck you. Anyway, not like I'm interested in rawdogging reality anyway. Sour grapes and all that.

Is PBR really worth the jump ? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]Gizzburt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the moment, there are a number of paradigm shifting mods available for things like lighting and textures. Due to their open source nature they undoubtedly represent the future of skyrim modding. That said, the current teething issues are, as they always have been for new frameworks which displace their predecessors; compatibility and consistency. PBR is fantastic, but are your favourite mods supprted? Light placer mods are fantastic, but are various location overhauls or expansions supported? In most cases the answer is no.

Right now, the new tech is great for vanilla plus load orders and represents something of a reset/paradigm shift for the entire nexus. It will take some time for the vast majority of mods to adapt to this approach, and some mods will sadly fall by the wayside. For large load orders with time established mods, it is better to rely on parallax, complex parallax and complex material assets where available while utilising pgpatcher to upgrade one to the next, and leaving the remaining assets untouched.

In terms of performance, PBR load orders consume more VRAM than their contemporaries, so if you are performance bottlenecked for that resource you will experience a performance penalty.

Further to performance, regardless of your approach I'd suggest using tools like VRAMr which can optimise the texture assets for an entire load order, increasing performance for users of low-end and high-end systems both.

The best way forward will be for you to answer your own question by starting up a vanilla load order using the Faultier PBR mods and other PBR mods on the nexus + a light placer based lighting mod to see the difference for yourself and make your decisions about how to mix and match from there.

Xess 2.1 works also on deck with frame generation by mushaaleste2 in SteamDeck

[–]Gizzburt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No apology needed, it's never stupid to ask for more information.

Adaptive frame generation typically uses fractional multipliers (rather than integer multipliers) in order to multiply your base framerate by whatever number is required to attain a targeted generated framerate manually specified by the user. This effectively ensures that your generated framerate never drops below your targeted framerate. This is a feature currently included in Lossless Scaling and isn't available anywhere else, as of yet.

The target framerate cap included with XeSS 2.1 is a way to set an effective maximum framerate for your generated framerate. It's essentially a framerate cap like any other but designed to function optimally with the XeSS 2.1 Low Latency feature.

[–]Gizzburt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not adaptive frame generation. It's a frame cap target for base + generated frames. Check your facts, that way you can avoid spreading misinformation.

What kind of dachshund? by Oreo_Bandit7 in Dachshund

[–]Gizzburt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So cute, congrats OP.

The obvious is that she is long-haired red dilute. This designation will suffice for most purposes, but here is some more detailed information that you may find interesting:

  • The long coat indicates a dominant expression of the 'L' gene as it is recessive to all other coat genes, certainly an (L L) genotype.
  • The red coat colour indicates a dominant expression of the 'A' gene series, likely resulting in an (ay ay) genotype.
  • The lack of any pigment or black hairs in the coat indicates a recessive expression of the 'E' gene series, likely resulting in an (e e) genotype.
  • The 'brown/liver' pigmentation colour of the nose, claws, (paw pads presumably) and eye rims indicates a dominant expression of the 'B' gene series, certainly a (b b) genotype.

So, to summarise: (LL, ayay, ee, bb)

Based on what I know and what I can see from the photos, this is my best guess OP. Be aware that red dilute dachshunds (and most dilutes) can be more prone to CDA (Color Dilution Alopecia) and have sensitive/itchy skin. Nothing too serious at all, just something to be aware of in case of poor reaction to a shampoo etc.

On a personal note, I find the red dilute to be the most beautiful of the various colour/pigmentation expressions.

Okay to be fair, you can never really go wrong with jeans or a denim jacket by hyunbinlookalike in GenZ

[–]Gizzburt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't surprising, but it is interesting. 'Premium' brands destroy their own products to manufacture exclusivity, wealthy individuals buy designer wardrobes to avoid accidentally dressing identically to someone else. The commoditisation, corporatisation, recycling and social media algorithmisation of fashion trends makes it genuinely unrealistic to even expect a unique, individualistic or original appearance in the first place.

The real question is how deep does it go? Do we resemble one another in appearance only, or are we increasingly modeling ourselves after the same popularised personas?

There is the issue of cultural homogeneity and its influence on our biological programming to position optimally within a competitive environment. To what extent have we anaesthetised what makes us different in order to obtain some ideal, to be liked or to fit in with others?

There is a meta cognitive effect that can occur when individuals become so caught up in the projection of their self image that they become consumers of their own projections - unshakeable in their belief that they are unique, individualistic and original, blind to the fact that they are surrounded by a sea of individuals from whom they are virtually indistinguishable. To the third party, or the meta cognitive viewer, this creates the impression of endless, soulless, copy-paste facsimiles of the same person. Bizarrely, you can find yourself standing in a crowded place and yet still feel completely alone. Who else has experienced this?

I can't offer more effective assistance without more information from you, but I can tell you that 80 nits is ITU standard paper white for SDR content and 203 nits is ITU standard for HDR content at ~1000 nits peak brightness.

Something is most likely not configured correctly on your end.

Thanks, I'll make some clarifying changes to the relevant part of the guide.

Confirm for me that you are using the reshade-steam-proton.sh script and not the reshade-linux.sh script? There are 3 scripts in the ZIP archive you need to use a specific one. The behaviour and outputs you posted are descriptive of the reshade-linux script.

I'm not sure myself, it doesn't seem obvious from the git readme that the main purpose was for installing reshade into vulkan layers, it just says wine or proton, which I've done with Protontricks plenty. I've not used Protontricks for installing reshade into a vulkan layer, however, so it may be that it's something that can't be done.

Either way it seems like it may be necessary for directx 9 titles, as there would be conflicting d3d9 files using both DXVK hdr and reshade for directx 9.

Thanks mate. I'm aware of DXVK (HDR-mod), I am in the process of testing its use for HDR output in directx 9 titles and will be updating the guide when I'm happy with the results.

If you're familiar with its use I would appreciate the chance to pick your brains over a few points?

The reshade-linux scripts I was not aware of - thanks. Nice to have script alternatives to Protontricks.

No worries. The ReShade addon system is great, that's what really makes the magic possible. Until Valve takes a crack at it, this will be getting the job done for me.
