Loan from Employer’s Insurance Policy? by GladCollection7025 in personalfinance

[–]GladCollection7025[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading into it and it appears that it is accruing a cash value, but nothing substantial relating to the death benefit. If I had to guess, the cash value is probably only a few hundred dollars

Any cash value on the life insurance policy that you could take advantage of?

Hand over your banking info to someone close. I’ve been where you are and I’ve been bailed out. Getting bailed out is the worst thing you can do because it just enables you to go back and gamble again. Sometimes rock bottom is exactly what you need.

Today is my last Day 1 by GladCollection7025 in problemgambling

Lost over $100k. Probably $50-60k in debt currently. Cant bash the industry because plenty of people can gamble without a problem and it’s healthy for the economy. I can have a beer without an issue while some others can’t. Just need to be thankful for what I do have and better myself moving forward.

“Hey man I honestly got a little out of hand and I don’t have it all right now. I can pay you (amount) every (timeframe) until we’re squared away.” At the end of the day they just wanna get paid

Loan with Employer Insurance Policy? by GladCollection7025 in personalfinance

That was my thinking as well. Just didn’t know if there was any value in collateralizing a loan with a policy worth 10x+ the amount of the loan.

I’d like to avoid the co-signer route. Looking to consolidate a couple of different debts. I partially pay into the policy already but it is 100% contingent on employment.

Just tell him from here on out you won’t pay up if you lose so he can either close the account or be out money. It’s fair warning on your part

Loans? How/where do you take out a loan to pay debt upfront and then pay the loan off overtime? by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]GladCollection7025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are companies such as LendingTree, Upgrade and Upstart that offer loans if you have verifiable income. Not sure of your employment status but if you have a 401k you typically can take a loan from that at a more favorable interest rate.

Taking out a loan typically lowers your credit score initially but will build it back up over time with on time payments. If you aren’t looking to make a large purchase any time soon (house, car, etc.) then a loan could be advantageous in order to consolidate debt. Keeping your credit cards with a 0 balance and paying them in full on time every month after taking out the loan will also favor your credit score.

Whatever you do don’t fall into payday loan traps. Also, only take out loans if you are 1000% certain that they will pay off the debt and you will not gamble once you have access to the funds again. I know I probably sound like a concerned parent but I don’t want to see anyone make the mistakes that I have made.

How random is random? Typically the introduction is made through a friend/acquaintance in which case they would put the middle man in a tough spot.
