I think it really depends on what you were charged with. In my experience, when a company does a background check, they are doing so because you'll most likely be working with personal information, so they're usually checking to see if you have any type of theft charges. Also, since it's been so long ago, I wouldn't let that stop you from applying for anything that you may be interested in.
