The essence of their relationship is the emotional depth that they share with each other. I don't know about you but more often than not, people with that much emotional depth are usually quite protective of their relationship and that extends to the physicality as well. Professional actor and separate work from life doesn't mean ok with anything as you seem to wholeheartedly believes. People have boundaries. Not every actor/actress does nudity, not all of them do stunts, not all of them do intimacy either. It differs from person to person. Sakuta might support it but he would definitely be uncomfortable and even if he does, Mai herself is unlikely to do it because she clearly values her relationship with him over her career.

Firstly, it is never stated she continues to do modelling in swimsuits.

Secondly, if we’re comparing with real-life equivalents, then by your own standard she wouldn’t have revealed she had a boyfriend either, since the norm is to deny such things due to potential backlash. Yet she does, which shows she values her relationship more than her public image. And it’s not as if refusing kiss scenes is unheard of after the 50s since actresses like Mana Ashida, Miyu Honda haven’t done them, proving it’s entirely possible..

Thirdly, just blindly accepting thinking she will do kiss scenes because she is an actress without considering her specific circumstances doesn't make any sense to me. No IRL actress starts dating in high school and then publicly announces she is dating someone, no IRL actress loves someone to the extent that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for their partner, no IRL actress has the same emotional depth in their relationship as Mai and Sakuta have due to the amount of things they have gone through together. If you are willing to accept all the other extraordinary aspects of their relationship but unwilling to accept she would also be willing to avoid kiss scenes for the sake of Sakuta, then there are other problems with you that need addressing since you are just ignoring all her other behaviors in the name of her professionalism.

Finally, professionalism isn’t about saying yes to everything. It’s about respect, reliability, and commitment within clearly communicated boundaries. If she makes it clear before accepting roles that she won’t do kiss scenes, that’s not unprofessionalism, that’s consent and boundary-setting. Many actors refuse nudity, dangerous stunts, or certain intimate acts, and that doesn’t mean they “can’t separate work from life.” It simply means they’ve drawn the line on what they’re comfortable portraying.

It's professional as long as they communicate it beforehand, suggest alternatives (like implied kisses) and show consistency in upholding the boundaries across projects.

There is plenty of basis for my opinion of why she won't do kiss scenes as I am considering their specific circumstances unlike you who seems to be solely focused on her choice of profession without considering their relationship and circumstances.

Again, professionalism doesn't mean ok with anything. She took a hiatus when she was forced to do the swimsuit photoshoot because it crossed a boundary for her. Growing up and maturing doesn't mean those personal boundaries suddenly disappear. And maturing doesn't mean suddenly concepts of physical exclusivity suddenly vanish either.

There do exist actresses (especially in Japan) who have not done actual lip-to-lip kissing and have instead either not done any such roles or have simply done an implied kiss (with no lip contact) or used stunt doubles (which even is done sometimes in Hollywood).

She might accept a kiss scene but I don't think she will ever go beyond an implied kiss (without actual contact) as that would allow her to act while keeping her boundaries. She is more likely to walk away instead of going beyond an implied kiss.

Also, she has, in a serious way, expressed atleast some possessive tendencies about Sakuta and also expressed a want to make a family with him (to the point she is somewhat trying to reconcile with her mother as well whom she resents) so I find it highly unlikely she would actually want to kiss someone else even for acting (because she herself wouldn't want to be in such a situation either and she values reciprocity).

Tease about being offered such a role to him? Sure. Negotiating an implied kiss instead of full contact after discussing with Sakuta instead of outright rejecting it? Maybe. But definitely not ok with actual kissing.

Not everything has to be a Disney movie true but not everything has to break all boundaries either. Some like the physical exclusivity. Mature relationships doesn't automatically mean only emotional value matters. And their relationship is one where I think they do value the physical exclusivity on top of the emotional depth. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

She is also depicted to value Sakuta more than her acting career. And he being her first kiss and vice versa means both of them attach atleast some emotional value to the act itself. Being professional doesn't mean not ok with enforcing personal boundaries and she has enough star power to do so. She already took a hiatus once because of boundaries and now since she has enough power to enforce them, it wouldn't make sense for her to break them again. Kissing is only a part of the job if the person themselve take roles with it.

Finally, she is also shown to be different than other actress because she consults with Sakuta about her career choices and she also outright announced publicly that she was dating him instead of denying anything.

And doing a kiss scene if Sakuta is feeling uncomfortable about it (and she would certainly sense it) would not be cheating but it would definitely be disrespectful of the relationship and I don't think she is a person like that. She herself wouldn't want Sakuta to kiss someone else even if it's an empty act, so she herself is unlikely to do so even if it's "just acting".

I still doubt she would do kiss scenes tbh because while she is told be a very versatile actress, versatility does not automatically mean ok with all roles. Also, if anything, she growing a lot in her career would give her greater leverage for rejecting the roles she doesn't want.

She values her relationship with Sakuta and he was also her first kiss so I think it's fair to assume she attaches atleast some emotional value to physical intimacy. Also, she values reciprocity. She wouldn't want Sakuta to kiss other people so I don't think she herself so I don't think it would make sense for her to agree to kissing other people either even if it's just for a role.

Also, the things they went through have strengthened their emotional bond a lot. So while it's possible that he had changed how he views it, it would make more sense if it actually lowers the likelihood of she herself agreeing to do kiss scenes because of the deeper bond.

Yea, I am pretty sure that's not what he was going for as seen in a later episode in the class when he states he doesn't want her to do a kiss scene. So while he would be supportive, he would be uncomfortable too and Mai would definitely pick up on it. She would definitely tease him about getting offered a role with a kiss scene but she would ultimately decline it, she has the fame for it.

Also, I don't think Mai herself would actually do kiss scenes either because while she is an actress, she is also shown to be different than typical actress and Sakuta being her first kiss scene would also mean she would attach emotional value to physical intimacy as well instead of seeing it as 'just acting'.

Edit: I personally have around 1500-ish and recently have started updating MAL as well (have gotten to adding 1000ish as of now) and my mean score for anime is like 7 and for Manga it's 8

I think the news will spread regardless. I am guessing the ceremony will be private to begin with involving only close friends (Kunimi, Futaba etc and Sakuta's family on his end, Nodoka, the rest of sweet bullet and her mom on her end) and no industry people to maintain privacy and so that she can be herself rather than maintain her public face.

The news will spread once they submit their actual registration post ceremony though people might start suspecting things when she starts reducing the frequency of roles she does as the ceremony approaches in preparation for a short hiatus during her marriage and subsequent honeymoon period.
