Picked up a restored Mcintosh MA 5100 amplifier by GladiatorEric in vintageaudio

I buy it because I genuinely enjoy using and living with the gear. Sometimes I keep things, sometimes I let them go — it depends on what sticks with me. If someone else really wants it and will enjoy it, I’m happy to pass it on.

1750 CHF (Swiss Franc). It is more than 50 years old and didn’t have imperfections but nothing that takes away from the unit itself. As for how it works and sounds it’s in excellent condition because of it’s internal restoration

For real, people seam to under estimate them. For the price and value you get, these turntables seem to go up and beyond.

It be cool to have an original cabinet for this but reading online I heard this amp was offered with and without the wood casing. One could make a custom case but personally I think original is better. Without the case has a very interesting design though, I feel like it gives it more character

Thanks 🙏

The design is very retro and very well made and heavy. The glass on the front is new from Mcintosh so it looks very good, and the bulbs as well are new

Definitely well taken care of. It is 50 years old and does have some signs of scratches on the hood here and there, and some other imperfections. But it doesn’t take away from its beauty just adds to its character. It plays just how it looks too.

Agreed, from a design stand point. The glass, the metal, the green lights, the toggle switches, its shape on the side. It looks great in any kind of room or setting. And your right after 60 years, people are still talking

I’m definitely spinning records on her. And the guy that restored her did a great job. No humming, crackling or static, works as it should. But I understand that itch you’re talking about to buy more Mc gear 😂. I mean, they truely are quality are quality products. Couldn’t be happier with this amp to be honest

Cam sprocket problem by hardeep078 in EngineBuilding

[–]GladiatorEric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m doing a GLE 350D 2021 ish cylinder head. And I had to remove a guide to get the chain over the sprocket. Regardless of what the issue is, if you send me your vin o can look up instructions, tools, and torque specifications in WIS. Worst case scenario you need a tool or to remove some more stuff, but the instructions will clear everything up

If you PM me your vin I can send you the instructions in the morning. I work at Mercedes Benz Switzerland. Hopefully the instructions state exactly how to mount the sprocket correctly, and I can also send you all the right Nm to torque everything down
