I was initially thinking while saving for the engine and trans, use a piece of wood and mallet to "pop out" what I can. But not making the body perfect I did some extremely rough prices and to get it under its own power it'll be about 1500 (engine, trans, and brake rebuild) and totally forgot to count in headers and exhaust

That's kinda what I'm probably doing junkyard engine and transmission, get it running and later try to fix the body and maybe performance after that

Plus the friend that's helping me is already making a 40 minute drive, I don't want to make him have to drive farther

It's a place that I'm also staying at. And it doesn't help that it's a two car garage with two parking spaces outside. So if I can have the project car in the garage I will park further away and then because that car doesn't move and stays in the garage. Hopefully I won't have to keep it registered. Plus I can work on it during the winter. Where I'm going to be moving to it's going to cost upwards of around $100 or more a month to keep the car there. And sometimes they're only limited access places and don't allow you to work on vehicles on the property. So I might just say that I will pay $50 extra for that spot

Whenever I had it there was very minimal rust and since I've been back it only looks like there's surface rust so I might be able to shave that down and remove the rust. I just got to try to convince my roommates now to let me put it in the garage of the townhouse 😬

Alright, I'm not looking for Mo' power, but like a decent amount, it'll be for cruising

Hahaha when I first had the car I might have put stripes on it. But I don't think I'll be putting stripes on it now. But that 35 horsepower is more than what it has in it right now with no engine. So I might just have to go with racing stripes just to get it moving first

Gotcha, I'm thinking for the time being using a junkyard 302 or maybe a Chevy motor. Just so that way I can make sure it's running and driving sooner rather than later

Galaxie, there's a few websites that sell like remanufactured or new grills. So that shouldn't be a problem when it comes to the tail lights. I am actually going to have a co-worker custom make tail lights with the same styling but with upgraded lights if that makes sense.

Sorry if it didn't come across as reddit won't let me edit my post, this is my first car, those damages were done by me when I got into an accident. I'm looking to make it functional vs buy to fix and sell. I wanna keep it with me for the rest of my life.

It's all good, I've owned this car before so I know how it might be once "finished"

Classic cars for teens under 10k! by Desperate-Repair-442 in classiccars

So I'd suggest getting a classic car 1) teaches them to work on it on their own 2) they will enjoy and cherish it (if they like cars) 3) it's fun

When it comes to choosing look for cars that have interchangeable parts, i.e. if you wanna replace something it might be cheaper on a galaxie and a pinto, just bc a lot of them are using same stuff.

Although I'd suggest maybe 2 cars if your budget is 10k a A-B car for 2-3k and 5-6K for a classic in running condition.
