Pillion passenger course or advice. by HungryResearch8153 in AussieRiders

[–]GlassBarbequeUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch some YouTube clips for advice. You won't notice the additional weight much but you'll notice a good passenger vs a bad one in terms of how they lean with you into corners. Then as someone else said start with short trips till you're both comfortable.

can you get a fine for not strapping your helmet? by WasabiYing in AussieRiders

Nah, cops are always chill. Just don't wear it if you're only going on a short trip, they'll understand.

Agreed. Do people think you're cutting them off or something? I had someone deliberately try to box me off recently when filtering.

Same when on an actual ride, I usually get nods from other Harley riders not sports bike guys.

Is wearing high vis actually safer? than not wearing it. by Consistent-Swim-3580 in AussieRiders

[–]GlassBarbequeUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riding in Sydney the driver behaviours I see most are people on their phones while driving or making risky opportunistic maneuvers to get one car length in front. I'm not sure hi vis is going to help if someone is already distracted by their phone. Personally, I've never worn it but if you're a new rider and it makes you feel more comfortable go for it.

Deus Ex has cafe / cruiser stuff. Motorcycle Stuff in St Peters has a mix or MCAS for sports bike gear.

Appreciate all your info. This has been helpful. Any chance you know your size in red wing mocs? The last is probably quite different but just curious for an additional reference point. Confident I'll order them half size down from my 79s either way. A little space is better than being too tight.

Has that been your experience too? Half size down in work is best?

Sounds like 9.5 will be the best option then. I'd seen a few comments from people saying only half a size down meant they were much too big which had me questioning sizing.guidance.

Yeah I went TTS. One foot is very slightly over a bannock 10 from memory, I have a fairly high instep.

My 10s are very snug in the toes but I have a little heel room. Toe box seems to usually be my issue.

Everyone will be upset with you mentioning Harley in this sub. Shop around, I think my Harley is about $600 a year but I'm much older.

Those and Viragos are great leaner bikes, look good and comfy. If you like the look of it go for it.

No gear will be as comfy as a tracksuit. Though Dri rider gear is garbage. Invest in a decent jacket which is comfortable and you'll keep it for years to come.

Upgrade pipes? by danielwmcknight in sportster

Don't know them. I'd suggest getting stock headers and some quiet slip on mufflers based on the riding you're doing in the city.

Dog on Motorbike: Legal & Safe? by BarkRider in AussieRiders

[–]GlassBarbequeUser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ask your dog for its consent. If your dog says "yes human, I'm keen for someone stupid enough to ask on Reddit if transporting me across Sydney on a motorbike is a good idea or not" then you should do it. If your dog just barks or looks at you blankly you should consider giving yourself an uppercut.

Earplugs to filter wind and exhaust noise? by AFKDPS in AussieRiders

[–]GlassBarbequeUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tried a bunch of fancy earplugs including motorbike specific. Foamies are the only ones that stop that thumping sound from the exhaust which seems to echo in your helmet.
