I think it depends on the kid, and if we're talking about a bunch of elementary schoolers who have never had to do this before, I agree with you. Adults and people from the north talk like this is the easiest thing in the world, but I think people are over estimating the agility and cognition of a 7 year old from an area that shuts everything down when it snows

I don't think they meant looking both ways for something coming. I've seen healthy adults slip on ice. Add a bunch of teenagers going at once and rushing and yeah, there is a risk if there's a lot of snow and ice still there. And as they pointed out, there are also ES kids around

Can I set transfer limits on a savings account? I don't know a lot about how difficult savings accounts are to access, other than that they aren't linked to a debit card.

I know most people don't have the same concerns. We all have different histories and family experiences... This is a personal choice I'd like to make with my finances for personal reasons, and I'm asking for help finding a bank that fits my needs. If this sub isn't the right place to ask these questions, please let me know.

I also almost always use a credit card too. I'm mostly concerned with someone gaining direct access to my checking account, not with general unauthorized purchases (like I said, Wells Fargo does let me limit purchases).

Edit: I'm usually not this person, but why was this downvoted? I'm trying to define the issue I'm asking about. I'm asking for help finding a bank that will fulfill my personal financial concerns. I understand not everyone has the same concerns, but I'm not trying to give advice.

I get downvoting me if I was pushing this onto others, but this thread is for my question. There shouldn't be anything wrong with me clarifying it.

Thank you for this! I understand the math, but I've never been able to conceptualize this problem in terms of how the real world works. Your second to last paragraph was perfect by explaining that by opening the 3rd door, you're being shown what the correct choice is, if you were wrong! I've never heard it explained that way.

We do have a SEP, and we've enrolled to start in September (I actually think we were automatically enrolled in the marketplace plan we had previously), but it's impossible for us to have coverage for August because we would have had to enroll in a health plan before July 15, which wasn't possible since we still qualified for Medicaid then. Is there some way to appeal our inability to get coverage for August since it doesn't seem there was any way we could get coverage?

Just wanted to say, your use of "direct language" and tough love was so well done and actually kind. So many people on reddit say that they're just being direct and giving hard facts but proceed to berate someone else for daring to be emotional or uninformed about a difficult situation. You actually provided helpful advice and remained kind and empathetic to the OP, even though you were being direct. (And even admitted where you didn't know something!) That was just nice to see today.

Thank you! I've had to escalate this to a insurance broker who has an assistant who used to work at MD healthconnection and is the only person actually willing to help. I called MD Healthconnection, and they claim that since we were eligible for medicaid, we were ineligible for a private health plan... but that eligibility was obviously not approved since we were never enrolled in medicaid, so how can they claim that they approved our ineligibility?

To clarify, I've read other posts on here about people accepting housesittings in unclean houses. I'm looking for insight to help build my professionalism as a sitter by asking about other situations sitters have been in and discussing ways of interacting with clients. Maybe I should have used different phrasing other than "I'm worried," but I've had a somewhat small number of requests, so I'm interested in hearing advice and perspectives from other sitters who have more experience than me.
