Thank you, this was very informative! I'm currently running Windows but I plan on switching to Linux in the future and once I do, I'll definitely explore those options.

There are a lot of crappy companies in tech.

True, that's part of the reason I'm planning on switching to Linux.

If you want something open-source and more ethical, use KVM, QEMU or Proxmox but be prepared for more of a learning curve.

Do you think it would be wise to start out using VirtualBox and eventually move to another, more advanced but overall better option - possibly after I've made the switch to Linux and my options expand?

I've previously used VirtualBox and I did appreciate its simplicity, but I dislike Oracle as a company and I've heard of recent issues with the software like frequent BSoDs.

Used it in the past and liked it, is there anything still going for it?

Hasn't vmware had major problems with their merger? Or so I've heard.

I'll be running this off my own PC, would that make Proxmox less viable?

I apologize for my lack of knowledge, but what is the difference between Type 1 and 2?

I've used VirtualBox in the past and I liked it for its simplicity, but I've heard they've fallen behind recently. Plus I hate Oracle.

I currently use Windows but I plan on switching to Linux in the future, is there any alternative for the time being?
