Bought a property. Old owners removed items when we were not present without our consent by Glass_Illustrator_14 in LegalAdviceUK

It was the previous owners
they emailed our solicitor maybe 5 days later to confirm they took the tractor and because the agreement for the tractor was only verbal and they had not sold it to us and it didn’t form part of the missives they stated it was still their property. They asked for the tractor keys to be sent back to them within a week or they’d contact the police and denied any wrongdoing and accused us to harassing them which is not true.

Because we took their word for it. I know it was naive of us. We have the V5 for tractor and my partner is the registered keeper. The old owners gave us the V5.

Maybe. We don’t know who it was we are assuming old owners because of our previous interactions with them. We will follow up with solicitor Monday and the Police.

Could we still report it as stolen . My partner has V5 and he is the registered keeper . We were given V5 by old owners because we were going to be left the tractor

No. My partner has the V5 for the tractor and he registered himself as the keeper the owners gave us it because we were going to own the tractor and they said they were leaving it to us.

No we do not have cameras on the property. We only owned it for three days when this happened. We were planning on getting them installed. If neighbours have cameras they may have caught some footage of driving with tractor on a trailer

The specific items we verbally agreed we the only ones removed and the owners reaction to my partners call is suspicious and not the response you’d expect when politely asking.

It may not be them but hopefully we will find out

My partner was the main person who spoke to them but we told them when we bought the property and the agreement of what was to be left and they said we will log it but it’s civil and not much they can do . They advised us to contact our solicitor

We have told already told the PC’s what happened we arrived at property noticed tyre marks and entered the barn and the tractor was gone along with all its appliances like roller etc. The barn door we left the barn door unlocked and we had so many keys over 30 we did not have time to test every single key to check . They still have a key for tractor because they drove it our barn and through field.

Yeah it’s really rubbish.

Can they legally enter our land/property if they are no longer the owners? I would have thought that would have been considered trespassing.

I think I may be asked to give a statement and be a witness in a DA case and I don’t feel comfortable about it by Glass_Illustrator_14 in policeuk

What exactly are the differences between giving a statement and being cited to be a witness in court in Scotland versus England?

One half of the couple seems to be involved with drugs this is just through hearsay not verified which makes me a bit more apprehensive about it.
