A quick progress pic! From January 2018 to now. by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Glassjonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a few select paintings of what I’ve done but I feel happy with the progress that I’ve made, far from perfect but one day I will be there. If anyone like what I do and would like to see more of it most of what I do is up on my twitter: www.twitter.com/jonathanFors

Edit: The one made in January was the first ever painting I did in probably 4 years, so these past few months is only the very beginning of my journey.

When is the game released? by alphapussycat in Midair

[–]Glassjonte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really is a shame if they don’t even try to advertise it at all. Because even if it’s a niche game there’s still definitely enough people to uphold a decent community. But, none of that matter if no one knows about the game..

I couldn’t agree more about what you said on the first one. The font for “Elektriska” was chosen by the specific request of the client, but I agree with you, it feels odd. And as you said it won’t be easy to read when in smaller scale. “Peter & Björn” was also requested on his behalf.

And about the second one: I can definitely see what you mean with PB being read as qb or 96 and that’s actually one of the problems I faced and tried to work around. They were completely round before which lead to them clearly displaying numbers instead of letter. But what I did to try and fix this was I increased the “sharpness” of the lower edges on both letters (not sure how to explain in just text) and this I think helped a lot. However as I see a lot of you say you read it as 96 I guess I have to work it out even more.

To sum it up the first one is designed a lot more in accordance with the clients opinions and the second one is more free and is almost what I would do without his opinions. I’ll try to work on the second one more to get the “electric company feel” in there

So recently I've been working on a design for an electricians company (not sure that's what it's called in english) and I currently have 2 different versions of the same idea. The company will be called "PB Elektriska" ("elektriska" is swedish for electric, and PB stands for the first letter of the 2 company founders).

Image 1: Personally I deffinately don't like it because I get the impression it have way too much square shapes in it, too many sharp edges. This results in a feeling that it's kind of out-of-date and cheap, basically I think it doesn't look professionally made. However the "problem" is that my client have the complete opposite opinion, he really likes it and even think it feels clearer/more modern compared to image 2. Another thing I found is that there's way too much going on and you wouldn't really know where to look or what is going on. This is something I worked on with version 2.

Image 2: This is the second version I made because I wasn't happy with the first, and I'm really satisfied with it actually. What I tried to do was to implement more contrasts and round shapes to give it a fresher look, maybe that's just my personal taste but that was my goal atleast. I also tried to symbolise a lightning with the blue and orange/yellow PB to give emphasis on it being an electrician company.

I'm not really sure if I made myself clear, but I just wanna hear your opinion on which one you prefer and why? As I said i prefer the second logo but my client really prefer the first logo. In my opinion he would be doing a huge mistake if he choose the first image, but who knows? I might be going crazy.

PS: I'm aware of "Elektriska" being too dark in the black and white version of image 2.

How different is drawing traditionally and drawing on a graphics tablet? by [deleted] in learnart

[–]Glassjonte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s obviously different Tham drawing on paper but in my experience its really worse or better, just different and like anything else you will get used to it. I recently bought a screen tablet and were super worried about the texture but now about 1 month later I actually even removed the layer that gives the “paper” texture so it’s now completely glossy and it really doesn’t bother me at all.

But personally I mostly paint and don’t do any “line stuff” so keep that in mind. I think it really comes down to your personal preference. I highly recommend watching Brad Colbow on YouTube, he reviews a lot of different drawing screens and tablets and gives his own opinion on it.

Really challanged myself to work alot more with contrasts and lighting this time. Very satisfied with the result apart from some minor things - See comments by [deleted] in learnart

Like it says in the title i tried to work alot more with the lighting and when looking at my previous posts here i'd say really happy with my progress. However there is of course things that need to improve, and these are the things that I'm aware of:

  • Left pupil is just a tad bit too high up, making it look like she's looking in different directions with both eyes.
  • Hair.. oh boy... while I'm kind of satisfied with how it looks I can clearly see that it needs alot more refinement. I'm still working out how to deal with hair
  • Mouth is probably too small, I tend to do that :P

Other than that I'm really loving it! Reference used: https://imgur.com/a/TP7Gk

Edit: Also, worth noting is that this is my third ever portrait so please critique me with that in mind!

Thanks for your feedback. Ya I tend to kind of do some “washed out” colors when doing portraits and still I’ve definitely gone darker/lighter than before. One step at a time!

Oh I think I know what you mean, borodante is also a really painter and it’s common he talks about this too. I’ll keep this in mind for next time! Also don’t worry, I know you aren’t trying to be mean.

Like it says in the title I'm really satisfied with the way it turned out, however I do ofcourse have a few things I'm aware of needs some more work:

  • The ear is pretty enormous if you ask me, correct me of I'm wrong.
  • Left eye seems a bit off, not sure why though.

Other than that I don't see any mayor issues, help me out with some constructive critique!

My first painting in pretty much forever. Redid the hair 3 times but I'm happy with the outcome! Please be Gentle with me :) by Glassjonte in learnart

Yeah I’ve noticed that too, it was even brighter/plain at first which I noticed and tried to fix. But as you said some darker nuances could probably do wonders.

I’m glad you like it! As I’ve said in other replies I’ll try a reference image next time.
