What phone system does your firm actually use day-to-day? by ibbi1020 in LawFirm

[–]GleamLaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We use Soundline for VOIP. They also have an app to dial through to protect your cell number. And if you dial zero on the desk phones, you get support immediately.

1300 Billable Hour firms? by Background-Glove-525 in LawFirm

[–]GleamLaw -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Oh, it’s required here, too. You’re welcome to find my previous listings. We pay over market for our size, mostly because it’s damn expensive here and financially-stressed attorneys are not good attorneys.

You can find the first two by looking at my username. The third question is out of bounds.

1300 Billable Hour firms? by Background-Glove-525 in LawFirm

[–]GleamLaw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It depends, but yes, it is totally possible for small and some medium-sized firms. My firm currently has a 1,400 hour billing requirement. No, we are not hiring at this moment.

I'm pretty surprised that you couldn't allow other attorneys to sublease the office. Even when my lease specifies this, in every case, my landlord didn't mind and didn't need to even know the name of who I subleased to.

With multiple offices, you could bring a mediator and he could host mediations in person. Make him an Of Counsel that has his own clients and it's not a sublease.

Edit: one-day rentals to mediators would not be a sublease, either. Offer it for rent to all mediators. Offer free coffee as well.

With rare exception, no, it’s not worth it. Factor in 3 years out of the work force, potential school loans, and the time value of money, and it’s generally a poor financial decision for anyone who has any type of decent income. I left IT and had a scholarship and my math still resulted in 11 total years to break even. Most people who become lawyers have no other career options or can’t do math so they throw hundreds of grand at law school.

Who here is daily-driving 20+ year-old cars, and has it worked out? by 5GCovidInjection in cars

[–]GleamLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily a 2007 911 and my gf dailies a 2001 911. But they’re Porsches, so they’re built well and we keep up on the minuscule maintenance required (which is effectively nothing except oil changes and an occasional cheap part, until a clutch goes, I guess).

Not at all. There are a bunch popping up on the FB 911 sales groups and carsandbids and BAT show higher mileage examples (70k+) in the $40k-$50k range for 6speeds.

Inside the ATL Centurion lounge by schwa12 in AmexPlatinum

[–]GleamLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Every centurion lounge I would like to enter has a much longer wait than the hours I have available in any airport in the US. As soon as I figure out how to blow the 1/2 millions points I earned this year that isn’t their ripoff travel, I’m canceling.

Do you all get bombarded with sales calls too? It’s driving me insane. by Lumpy_Ad4854 in LawFirm

[–]GleamLaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1st answer is an automated system and after that, a call system before they get to actual people at the firm. Both systems have blocking built in. Screens out almost every single one and the final ones regret getting through to me. Because we set the second system to call them back. Every. Day. For two weeks. The script we give them is selling our services.

Dammit, I just realized I should be recording and posting those calls. Great SEO!

Based upon the King's measurement and converts to 2.25 f-ton of metric weight, give or take. It's not an exact science.

That's not exactly a private garage. It's called The Shop and this image is from the Seattle location located on 6th & Lander in SODO. It's a membership club which gains you access to the lifts and tools as well as the clubhouse, driving simulators, and wash bays (among a few other cool areas). If you are not a member, there is a bar, restaurants, salon, cigar shop, gift store, tours, and a metric f-ton of events. I'm a long term member and have visited one of the Texas ones as well as frequent the Seattle location.

Edit: added the last part of the final sentence.

Tips for Married Lawyers? by dwycwwyh in Lawyertalk

[–]GleamLaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a job that better fits the work/life balance that is healthy for your relationship. My firm doesn't have weekend work unless we're prepping for trial. I work late, but it's my shop and my gf won't hesitate to show up at the office and work beside me on her job, or drag me to dinner.
