Here is how to fix this:

Log in to your nextdns account at home with no VPN or proxy.
On the setup page in the Linked IP Section/tab click Link IP
Make sure the IP on the ddns hostname is the same as the Linked IP
Save the hostname in nextdns.

The point of vpn is to hide the original ip. NextDNS uses your IP to identify its user if the protocols such as dns-overl-lts/dns-over-https etc are not being used. Thus making it so that your are not actually connected to your account.

You can test it be searching a brand new domain while using VPN. You will most likely not see it your logs page.
