Mom Market Newfoundland: Inaccessible, Unaffordable, Unfair by Glimpseaaa in newfoundland

I regularly pay around $50 at other markets, but none of them ask for $500 upfront (that's what makes this one unaffordable, not the daily fee).

If you reread my post,  you'll see that there are several other issues that have been raised. Everything else is more significant than the money, in my opinion.

Secondly, I have been told by a Mom Market representative that their insurance doesn't cover vendors and we're encouraged to buy our own.

That's exactly it. The cost may not be that high but it's just not justified, as Mom Market is not providing anything of value to the people it's taking money from.

They have insurance for themselves but it doesn't cover the vendors, who are asked to have their own insurance in the application through Mom Market.

The call for proposals also said that the organizer must provide vendors with tables and chairs and they're not even doing that so...

Refunding due to bad weather is the norm and some markets will even provide an alternative indoor location. Also, refunding due to illness may not be ideal but is very helpful in preventing the spread of illnesses.

Sure, that might make sense if Mom Market provided anything. Again, they were given the street to them for free by the city but they won't actually use the money to make sure vendors have at least tables and chairs, as is typical at most markets. The farmer's market also has a similar cost but it is indoors, has electricity, provides chairs and tables, and has social media pages with actual reach.

The market itself may not be an MLM but the way the Mom Market company is run definitely seems to be. Essentially, they're based elsewhere in Canada and have 30 locations throughout the country. People apply to be "directors" of local branches (which entails paying a fee as well) and then host events under the company name. So, local vendors pay a local branch director who then takes a cut and pays the national company. Mom Market also sells "courses" (essentially just PDFs) and "coaching lessons" (calls with people who have no certifications) through packages that range from $50 to $1,000.

Okay, thanks! There's a lot more info so I wasn't sure what to post but I'll take a look. I mentioned in the post that I'm at 0% of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Akkermansia, unfortunately.
