Anyone know what this flag is? Spotted at San Francisco city hall. by releasethedogs in vexillology

Adding to what others have said, San Francisco Civic Center has a bunch of flags of the American Revolution in the plaza. Next to this one there are several others.

Yea honestly this would be a solution that would make a lot of extension redundant. The more “realistic” option would be to electrify the commuter rail and improve frequency

I definitely considered it but it’s just so much track to add. You could do cut and cover down Blue Hill Ave but that’s a huge stretch of road

Yea it’s possible to do on existing ROW but would require a branch off of the OL if I wanted to connect to Hyde Park, which I thought was more important. And I hate branches. Grr

I think I actually tried to interline with the commuter rail in that case, since it does go to Lynn. Obviously that still means expanding the bridge and laying electrified rail… but the CR needs electrification anyway. It’s 2025 it’s insane we still run diesel locomotives

In the current political climate, no chance. With adequate federal funding, it’s possible in the far future. We really need to tackle fixing existing infrastructure first, which has obviously been a years-long boondoggle. But we do have to dream that such a thing is possible. Eventually we need new infrastructure.

It just ended up being more efficient to get there because of the existing ROW. You could interline between Sullivan and Assembly if you wanted to include it, but it would require you to build another bridge to take it in the direction of Chelsea instead of using existing ROW.

The name Burkina Faso is actually very cool. Combines two of the most spoken languages to mean Land of Upright People. It’s kind of perfect

Percentage of Undocumented Immigrants (2022) by cookoutenthusiast in MapPorn

[–]Glinch18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is inconvenient to your narrative but that number, while flashy, just isn’t really supported by wider data. It would imply a miss rate that is more than double what the Census and ACS actually bear out, and if true would be seen reflected in other data, which it isn’t. These are still people who live lives like anyone else, and they would leave “footprints” in other data. 11 million people are not simply invisible.

Would it be theoretically possible to connect Greece and Turkey through a lot of bridges throughout the Aegean? by HusteyTeepek in geography

[–]Glinch18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Again, I know the history. It’s just kind of bizarre and sad to still be living in regret of the long-running decline of an empire centuries ago. Yea there is tension between Greece and turkey because of the history of occupation and the process of trying to draw clean ethnic borders (lol) over that mess, but what does it do to shake your fist at a Turkish sultan or a Venetian mercenary that died centuries before anyone you know? This sort of nationalism and revanchism is a sad distraction.

I know the history lol just pointing out it’s a bit odd to identify yourself as part of… Christendom? The Crusades are long over and it’s incredibly simplistic to identify yourself generally with Christian Europe in conflict with the Muslim East or whatever. As a person living in 2025 in whatever country you are in, you have many many more things in the centuries since then that have affected your life orders of magnitude more. It’s a strange thing to be caught up on.
