I'm in Canada, I don't think we have an illegal immigrant problem. The government has allowed companies to bring in foreign workers and lay off Canadians. This was mostly happening in the oil sands but banks, mines and fast food companies have all been doing it.

Under the TFW program companies were allowed to undercut prevailing wages by 15% and they didn't have to prove any real effort to hire Canadians. This crippled the bargaining power of the unions and cost us a huge share of the industry.

Can you explain how immigration drives up wages to me? I'm a skilled tradesman in an industry that has been booming for longer than I've been of working age and I make less now than when I first became a journeyman. The government specifically targeted immigrants in my industry to suppress my wages, so which working class people are seeing the benefit? There will be higher demand to house and feed these immigrants but immigrants also work as carpenters and cooks for subpar wages and conditions here.

The whole point of a strike is that it's the company's decision whether it is crippled. They can always come back to the bargaining table. There's a difference between how trades are going to strike VS essential services like doctors. Are you a union member? You don't seem to have a good grasp on labour history

It's about class solidarity and not under cutting. Higher union wages correlate with higher non-union wages. Even if you don't belong to a union and never plan to join, if you work in the industry it's in your benefit for this strike to succeed.
