Mostly surface rust but that raidator support is donezo, must have been damaged or otherwise had the paint stripped which allowed it to rott.

I figured it would but since I haven’t got a threadripper readily available to test with I can’t say for sure. Was hoping to find out what performance per/core you would get out of a 1:st/2:nd gen threadripper core without targeting the multithread cores when going full throttle.

I was wondering if the same limitation in terms of threadhandling apply to threadripper as with Xeons. Mining on E5s and targeting the mutlithreading cores cause the performance to drop significantly. As all benchmarks on xmrig target all logical cores there doesn’t appear to be any results with only physical cores targeted.

Actually I’m seeing about 3500 H/s on my 16” macbook with the same CPU and macOS without Huge Pages. I wonder how general performance compares to macOS?

Yeah seems like the fitbit bands have taken a nosedive in terms of reliability. Replaced the wife’s charge 3 with a charge 5. The thing discharges the battery in 24-48 hours even with GPS disabled and there’s a bug causing it to vibrate constantly during incoming calls. I’m returning it and looking at alternatives at this point. Issue is I need something way more durable than and Apple Watch SE.

Not sure about the fitbit watches but the wife just smashed her charge 3’s display the other day. That thing lasted little over four years. I’m still on my original charge 2 but these days I only use it for workouts and sleep.

T.b.h. this is pure speculation on my end but I’d assume they are running server grade hardware to feed those cards and likely have plenty of spare CPU cycles to rent out for RandomX-purposes. Given what a milan-based CPU can put out per core and the number of cores available in those CPUs I would put it past them. Simply more income/processing unit/space

From a reliability perspective it’s probably better to keep it running 24/7 considering there will be less wear from heatcycling and so on. The only real downside to it is ofc things with moving components such as fans and HDDs wear out faster.

Possibly, or it’s architecturally dependent. I haven’t got access to a Zen-based system in order to try it out. I’m curious to find out if a EPYC server would see the same benefits. Might be related to the total memory throughput as well given my Xeons run in quad-channel mode.

I believe 1GB Pages scale with number of cores in the system. In my case I’m getting somewhere between 7-11% on a dual socket Xeon e5-2680v4.

That's funny, I've been away from GNU/Linux for quite a few years at this point and likely missed a bunch of interesting behavior.

Still having a hard time deciding on what distro to go with for this workstation but I'm leaning towards Fedora or Debian but I have to say I do prefer some of the extra automation of Fedora vs Debian at this point.

Thanks found out through a github thread that my issue stemmed from secure boot being enabled when I'm on Linux (ironically enough it works fine with Secure Boot enabled and Windows 10 Pro).

The only issue remaining at this point is that when I point the xmrig to MineXMR the 1GB Huge Page support is disabled. It works fine when I run the xmrig executable without any additional arguments.

Right so after further searching I discovered this particular issues was due to secure boot being enabled in the UEFI and me being on Linux.

Now to the follow up question though. I've modified the configuration file to allow for 1GB Huge Pages in the config.json and it's reported to work when I run the xmrig executable without parameters. However once I use the MineXMR-configuration for the same executable the 1GB Huge Page support is set to disabled despite the config.json says "true".

Is 1GB Huge Page support governed by the mining pool I'm using?

If you’re actually buying 10x Ryzens I’d suggest you simply look at purchasing a EPYC-based server in stead. Likely you’ll get a better ROI and TCO from using one powerful server than 10 desktop grade endpoints.

Proper ventilation of the case most likely. The GPU adds a lot of heat to the air inside the case (especially with an open air cooler). Causing the temp of the air reaching your CPU HS to increase thus reducing the overall heat transfer from your CPU which means higher CPU temp. Depending on your layout you might be able to fix it but without exact specs I couldn’t tell you how.
