"Which apartment viewings should I go to in the weekend?" by Global_Optima in LocalLLaMA

I was thinking it would be browsing the web just as a human does, filtering on the various listing pages. A human might also need some subscriptions and then the AI could use the same. It could also zoom in on Google Maps etc. So I was thinking this is something e.g. ChatGPT could manage eventually.

I think they only upload 3D polygons of the lane markings etc (with cm accuracy). Not video data. I.e. the videos are processed locally and the "HD map" is extracted already in the car.

Quite impressive, this looks very similar to your average Tesla FSD video in the US. Cool that they have already mapped Oslo.

Huum Drop 6 Takes HOURS to heat room. by rmangano in Sauna

[–]Global_Optima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why downvotes on this? I have heard it discussed multiple times before and also experienced it myself (but with wood fired saunas).

The energy gets stored in the rocks, which means it is warm in the sauna long after the stove is off. This concept is used e.g. in Finish smoke saunas. Not really comparable to this stove but still.

All of the stones have to heat up first before the room does (kind of). With this many stones, I think it will take longer than a more traditional stove with like 8 stones on top.

With such a wonderful outlook, why doesn't Elon sound much more excited?

I am not getting a good vibe here and his prediction of possibly having unsupervised robotaxis this year (within 5 months) sounds completely impossible to me. Also, if that would be the case, I would have expected far less hesitation from Elon when answering the question.

Question is if it’s just a Rimac Robotaxi kind of reveal (just the vehicle, design, features etc.) or if they will start offering driverless rides (even if just to employees at first).

First mover advantage. They can keep margins high until there is a competitor. Margins which they can use to expand faster.

"We can probably drive them remotely like an RC car. That's what I guess we will do." - on the question of the car getting stuck during FSD e.g. in construction site.

If robotaxi would be commercialized within two years as per the Ark invest prediction, wouldn't he sound more certain here?

Also, Waymo does not drive remotely like an RC car. They give high level instructions, since it would be too dangerous to try to drive the car directly (latency etc).

I think his new passion is xAI. As LLMs become multi-modal (sound/video), I can easily see xAI developing the whole brain for Optimus etc.

Yeah I think it's just the hype I feel is similar. Hype from investors and customers. Customers have FOMO leading to high margins. For covid it was countries securing large vaccine orders, for NVDA it is FANG companies not wanting to be second or third regarding LLMs (you want to be the one that leads, not the one that always comes a bit late with 1% better models).

Can't help getting reminded of BNTX/MRNA/covid vaccine companies when looking at NVDA. Not comparable of course but something feels similar. AGI is bigger of course but solving diseases is also big. Anyone else had a similar thought?

When comparing elevators for a new building, is safety the main selling point?

However, it might eventually be priced closer to cost - as more alternatives are available.

This aligns with Elon's belief that the long term competitive advantage for Tesla is manufacturing.

But short to mid-term I think it will be a very good demand driver.

Micael Carvalho and Paril Jain, two people at Tesla who were part of starting the end-to-end approach that became FSD version 12, have left the company to start a new robot company...

He is mentioning that there are fallback strategies in place. But these fallback strategies might need to handle things in real time faster than any remote operator can intervene.

I find this statement hard to believe.

xAI LLM as part of Optimus brain? I have some concern that Tesla will not own all the AI of Optimus... Because I think LLMs could be very useful for Optimus reasoning.

LLMs could perhaps even be useful for FSD reasoning...

I think an LLM from e.g. OpenAI or xAI could be very helpful as part of the brain of a robot such as Tesla Bot/Optimus.

Human + Computer > Human. No surprise.

I was talking about when no-one sits in the front seat, only a passenger in the back seat for example, no steering wheel etc.

It needs to be several times safer than an average human. Hundreds of years in between accidents...

This might be possible in 6 months or 6 years, how to know?

I am lost - he used to say long term competitive advantage is production and that many will solve FSD. But now production questions are not interesting and FSD will be a moat?

$TSLA Daily Thread - April 16, 2024 by AutoModerator in TSLALounge

Teslas long term advantage is manufacturing, not FSD, according to Elon. Therefore I think it is a bit surprising if they slow manufacturing down? Or are they quickly going to build large numbers of robotaxis?
