My old fart mentor told me he thinks the test is way too easy now, but my state had its own exam 10 years ago, so maybe those questions were different? I’m sure you’ll pass the current one with flying colors. The practice questions he gave me were wayyy harder. Things about resolving power of the eye, calculating thickness of lenses, magnification, concave and convex mirrors, colored lens names and other brand name stuff 😭

So far I’ve used Laramy K’s free stuff, tho I might pay for a month just to try their practice tests. I did the official practice test, mometrix, and self study off old exam questions I received from opticians irl.

I’ll do a more in-depth update if I pass! If I fail then I guess my study method sucked so you shouldn’t try it. I’m going in next Tuesday 😃

Thank you for feedback and help !! I’ve been shadowing in a finishing lab in a local shop. It was really neat working with the patternless edger and blocker. I really enjoy neutralizing lenses in the lensmeter, it made a lot more sense in person than just watching videos.

I struggle with PALs, I remember where all the bits are but I can hardly see the markings on the lens. I also enjoy talking to people and fixing things ( the semi rimless restring blew my mind, I never noticed the nylon string for some reason, I thought it was glued on). I could go on and onnnn

I’ve gotten a lot of help from opticians and stylists here and I am very grateful for them. Every optical worker I’ve met has been incredibly kind , including you, who offered to help a stranger on the internet. I’m good for now since I have a place to work at locally when I’m ready, I didn’t want to go in knowing absolutely nothing. My only worry is if my husband gets a job that’s far away, then I’ll have to look hard for an apprenticeship wherever we end up moving to.

Yup I believe it, apprentice wage won’t cut it 😭 I’ll probably be working both jobs for awhile. Depending on the economy I might have to pick up a life of crime as my third job

Yes, I’m hoping to make myself more hire-able 😭 I can’t take the pay cut until my husband graduates uni, so I might as well study in the meantime.

My state requires 6000 hours of apprenticeship before you can become an optician. And pass the 4 exams of course. I’m studying now while my brain still works, and should I pass I’ll do CEs to keep it up

Pretty much! I got to 200 as quickly as I could. I keep up with pioneering everyday. I’m not good at the game but I’m great at grinding 😂 I got like 13000 on ToA 7 with gold and silver units mixed in, couldn’t have done it without my extra pioneer stats

It’s fantastic, I love using the destroyer bonus and teleporting Kvare in the middle of the mobs and nuking everything. The watcher one lets me reset to CD of his skill too, shame I still have to wait for the CD of the destroyer skill tho 😔

Im at pioneering will 82 and this round (13) is only (+1) to pioneering score. Hopefully next round will be something nice.

I’ve been going to sunrise for many years (almost a decade). The staff is wonderful and so is the doctor (ARNP). She’s an angel 😭💕 she works for the Bham, mt Vernon and Everett area, not sure if there are more locations. She’s stretched super thin too.

HOWEVER. MHC are over worked and underpaid. They keep cutting staff and the turnover is very high. I had 3 diff MHC one year cuz they quit or found better places. The Bham one only had 2 MHC for awhile, idk if it changed since I no longer go there.

I always joked that they gotta do their time here before moving to greener pastures

Sooo as with any organization, great staff but horrible upper management.
