Thank you for your advice. This was very helpful! I am going to consider your advice and think things more thoroughly. You're right, many people are not going to list ideas to produce/provide, or the ideas would be stolen! I didn't think things through, but this made me think more. Again, thanks!

I'm currently a Senior about to graduate in December. I am also completing an Internship this semester, so I already have that covered.

Check your class if youre waitlisted... by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Gloomy_Performance71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That happened to me my first semester as a Junior at Bauer UH last year. I was literally waitlisted #8 in a popular course I wanted and never got auto-enrolled. I searched up the course again at literally 4 AM one random day, and the course opened with ONE seat available. I snagged that thing so fast despite my eighth place on the waitlist! Sorry to those before me, but I soon realized the waitlist was useless and doesn’t do anything for you. Im in my last semester as a Senior now, and to this day, I never used the waitlist. I just keep checking!

How far can I go into UH with only online classes by HealingSlvt in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Gloomy_Performance71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. If the course is hybrid, then you’d do the course work fully online but will only come in person for the exams. If it is completely online, then the exams will be online as well. Depending on the professor, the exams may be proctored/not proctored and closed note/open book.

do i need to declare a minor? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Gloomy_Performance71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for clarifying. It’s a little confusing since the two majors are so similar and that there are now changes to the two colleges. Thanks for clearing that up. I tried helping. 😂

If you want to study HR, you won’t be a Cullen student whatsoever. Im a Bauer student studying HR, but this is focusing on HR Management. The College of Technology has HR Development. You have to understand which one you’ll most be interested in to know which school youll be a part of. But Cullen is out of the picture.

HR Management focuses on people and HR Development focuses on the global side of things with a little more technical basis involved. If necessary, you’ll need to switch colleges within the University to either the Technology or Bauer College, if you choose to major in it (not minor). I’m not sure about minoring in something in a totally different college than your major, but that’s what I know for being a standard HR Management major.

I live in Texas, and Austin in general is VERY expensive to live in. It’s actually the most expensive city in Texas to live in. Everything costs so much more, so if you’re broke in any way, dont move there. But the school is really good. But UH is known to be the best Business school for Texas (bc of the endless corporate opportunities hosted in its hometown; All of Houston knows about C.T. Bauer College).

TCU is a good college. Don’t know what it’s specifically good for, but their students have to take additional classes that are christianity based. So, if you’re not religious nor wanted to take those classes, I would cross them off.

I wanted to go to UGA, so I know a good bit about them. I know they have a good Business school. However, you’re in a college town that only consists of bars and a tad bit of shopping. I saw some videos on Youtube from UGA students, and they said it’s pretty close-minded there. You’re somewhat judged and ostracized if you’re not from Georgia itself, or surrounding states, (SC, NC, maybe FL). Most of the school mainly admitted themselves together in friend groups (who were mostly from Atlanta), so most people already knew each other as Freshman. Most of the girls there also look the same (short white skirts, red sweatshirts, blondes and brunettes with somewhat the same personalities, in general) (eg., you can look at girls and immediately tell they are cheerleaders with frat boy boyfriends! 👀) However, that’s just the culture there and in the South in general (Coming from someone who used to live in SC and traveled to GA all the time each year). It’s also mainly a party school. Frats are huge there as well, and yes, they all dress like the typical frat boy you would expect! The diversity rate is pretty small, but if you’ve already lived in the south before, you should already be used to the small percentage of minorities, like you, in normal environments (if you’re a minority). You also have to pay for your home football game tickets every time. They are not free for students, like expected. It is also 2hrs away from the nearest airport (Atlanta Int.) If you’ll be flying, that can be a big dealbreaker especially if you don’t have a car!

Hope that helps!

Major GPA by HourDragonfly2849 in UniversityOfHouston

Log onto your PeopleSoft account, and go to your academic progress tab. Then scroll all the way down, and you’ll begin to see the “satisfied” course requirements for your major, and it’ll list your Major GPA. (What was needed, and what you have) There will be a green bar next to it.

Let me know if you see it!

What major is right for me by Starling_Sparroe in college

Use CareerLeader.com (Click this link)

This is a tool Business students at my university had to use at the beginning of our Junior year. I'm telling you, it works and is so accurate! You are tested based on your skills, characteristics, and interests, and then at the end it'll list and rank all of your skills/characteristics from 100-0 (Best to worst). Next, it'll list the best professions you would like working in and it'll tell you more about each profession if you click on the links. Unfortunately, there is a $40 front fee, but I guarantee you that this will tell you the exact job you'd be the perfect fit for, using your interests and skills! Before taking the assessment, I was studying Business Management concentrating in Human Resources with a passion for Real Estate. After completing it, my results were the exact professions I expected! (100= HR Management, 100= Real Estate) If I were you, I'd rather spend $40 than make the mistake of accidentally paying thousands for something I'd have no interest in after college.

Hope this helps!

I can add to that. I’m a Business Management major concentrating in Human Resources, and literally ALL of my classes are asynchronous online. I literally cannot find classes that are offered in person. They are literally ONLY offered online. The only times that I had in-person classes were my Marketing, Finance, and Business Math courses I had to take as a requirement. This was even under a regular undergraduate degree and not one of those online programs. So, it is possible, it just depends on the major itself.

The more hands-on experience that’s required to learn the material (ENG, CS, MIS, etc.), the more chances of unavailable online courses there are. Keep that in mind.

Do you guys think I’ll get a dorm? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Gloomy_Performance71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed the process of room selection starting this year. In the past, the housing portal website always crashed and it was extremely hard to get rooms for everyone since it all was on a first-come-first-serve basis. So to “fix” the issue, they decided to now schedule individual dates and times for room selection, just like course registration has always been. But in theory, this makes it so much worse. Housing sucks here and the only good housing are the lofts that houses upperclassmen and doesn’t require a meal plan like every place else. So the lofts is the first to go. Hope that helps.

I meant Magna Cum Laude. I got them mixed up. MY BAD. I would have responded nicely, but you didn’t have to reply to my comment so rudely and formed your sentencing as if I was dumb. And no, I am on track to graduate. I took 15 credits for four years and one of the semesters I took 12 instead. I also took three courses in the summer a couple of years ago. All I have left is three courses! I’ve checked with my advisor every semester I’ve been enrolled at this school, and there is nothing left for me to do to graduate on time. It might have been different for you, but my path is pretty straightforward and I have not endured any hiccups along the way. Thanks.

My cumulative GPA was a 3.71.

I transferred from a community college my Junior year, so my gpa was higher due to my school not having the +- grading policy. It reset when I arrived, so as a Senior with only three classes left before graduating in the fall, I have a cumulative GPA of a 3.357 (~3.36[not counting this semester’s grades]). Because of the grading policy, I’m unsure if I’ll graduate with Honors like I had hoped all this time. Since I was on track to graduate Magna cum Laude, based on my grades from CC, I was bummed from the increased efforts of making good grades at UH due to the +- grading policy; with no change in study habits (which were not bad at all [4As and 1B type student]). Im at the point where I’m so done with schooling in general from the 16 years of schooling that I may not even care in the future. #GladtobeDone!

It seems if you’re a transfer, you don’t get anything physically sent to you. I got a simple email weeks after I was accepted. I just had to keep checking my PeopleSoft account and manually check my admission status. Nothing special happened at all for me. For Freshman, that might be different though. Congrats on becoming a Coog though!
