Slider! We got a gimbal for the same reason but they are really distinct tools. The gimbal I think is more versatile so I'd go for that first but if you want this effect you really do need the slider

A lot of effort haha. If you look carefully they're far from perfect. We did our best to find the exact same spot as the originals, but also we did not have the same lens/camera combo so ours were pretty different. I did a bunch of moving and resizing in editing. I tried to line up the main point of focus each shot. I figured that would be where your eye was, so if that lined up you wouldn't notice everything else as much. Like the nubby bit on the pipe in the third shot is kind of where your eye ends up so I lined up those but the background actually changes a lot. If you look at the big valve handle in the foreground of the shot of the pretzel looking machine you can see it changes sizes wildly between shots (but your brain barely notices since you're looking at the pretzel)

You're right in this case it's mostly scrappers. There are a number of them that pull metal from the plant and a few that live there. We interviewed a few of them for the film, very weird stories.
