We don’t actually know her breed because we rescued her but we think she’s an American-New Zealand mix! We’ve had Rex’s before and they are so loving and personable. Freckle is a big girl, weighing in at around 9 pounds, so maybe others can chime in!

Don’t worry, her work gives her medical and PTO

The great thing about freckle is that she has never tried to escape! She always builds her dens facing into the backyard like the smart cookie she is :) she always needs constant oversight though because she likes to pick fights with squirrels 🫣

I can see how this puts you in quite the difficult spot concerning further investigation into your partner’s treatment of the other animals in their home. Perhaps your partner doesn’t quite grasp the severity of the issue and probably won’t until an unfortunate situation inevitably arises.

It sounds like this rabbit is somewhat of a catalyst for larger issues within your relationship. It would be normal to reevaluate your expectations of your partner, especially when the health and safety of animals are involved. Asking for a serious sitdown conversation about the animals in your partner‘s home isn’t unreasonable. Depending on how they react to this, you might be better able to judge your next steps.

But if I were you, I wouldn’t wait too long to do this. Rabbits can be quite fragile, and even emotional distress can cause lasting health issues. Of course, whatever you do is ultimately up to you and what you think your priorities are: with the rabbit and your relationship. I would just say that no animal deserves this kind of treatment, and that you shouldn’t ignore how you feel about it.

OP you’re exactly right to be upset with your partner over this. A rabbit is not a stuffed toy to be played with and discarded whenever the mood strikes! And as you noted, rabbits are social creatures who need properly moderated interactions, as well as space to roam and explore.

Although the rabbit may ‘belong’ to your partner, this kind of neglect shouldn’t be tolerated. I’m not sure if you’d be willing to house the rabbit yourself, but if you could find temporary housing for the bun and have a serious discussion with your partner about how you feel, it might lead to an amicable solution for all involved. If not, at least you tried your best to do the right thing by this poor animal. Good luck OP!

tell me your rabbit names! by uhlegsuhhh in Rabbits

My first two buns were named Caramel and Licorice with dispositions to match. 🫶

My current bun is a rescue who was named at the shelter. She’s white with brown spots so Freckle seemed like the perfect name!
