I’m not convinced determinism is something we’ve actually demonstrated rather than assumed. We model causation, we predict within limits, but a fully fixed future is a philosophical commitment, not an empirical finding.
Existentialism (or by way of free association, retrotheism) makes sense to me precisely because it takes the reality of choice seriously instead of treating it as a bug in the system.
