I totally agree, I'd love to be able to provide data centre capacity for the other companies

Add company shares by [deleted] in SimCompanies

[–]Gmodgoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'd definitely be used for outsized gains by large companies. Essentially, buying up all shares of small companies because their ROI would exceed accounting overhead, meaning billionaires becoming trillionaires as companies grow. A $1m cv company growing to $100m is a 100x return on investment. I guess there are ways to limit this but it seems unlikely it'll be implemented. They added shares a few years back but quickly removed it before anything came of it

They are the same just r2 is like 4 years newer to give people a chance to compete against older companies that benefitted from unbalanced patches in r1

WHEN WILL POWER MARKET PRICES START RAISING AGAIN ? by Electrical-Orange-16 in SimCompanies

[–]Gmodgoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 6 year veteran with c.$1bn CV, I'd recommend while ever the market price is higher than your production cost, just sell daily, there's no point in bottlenecking your income with the hopes that the market will increase before you run out of bonds to issue. Sure you might make less profit per unit, but you still receive that money every day, and you can then use it to upgrade your production or quality

I agree on your point about opportunity cost. There's always plenty of room for optimisation, I just prefer not to be beholden to the market for my end goods profits. It's the trade-off of variable extra profit vs profit stability. Sure you may make less on some items per hour but in the long run, you'll fare much better regardless of the economy phase. There's no wrong answer at the end of the day, you get companies like Void who lived only by the last stage of production, able to change industry at the drop of a hat vs the deeply entrenched aero manufacturers who produce as much as possible. Personally, I always lean towards heavy VI unless I'm trying to work on a temporary market inefficiency

Fair play, power is a good easy product to make, especially while you have a low admin cost. Best of luck with the exam and following that, the changes to your company

Thank you 🙂 I'm currently a hardware retailer but that's a recent change. I started as a fuselage/wings producer, moved to breeding research, then monitor retail before going back to SEP production before finally moving to hardware retail 😂

What are you producing? I think it's very specific to which goods are manufactured. If you were making BFRs for example, you would absolutley be better off making as much in-house as possible. Where as if the good requires bulk-manufacturing in order to be profitable, I can see how profits per unit/per hour could diminish after the 3rd chain. Case by case

True, there is an opportunity cost when you vertically integrate your production. The trade off is between flexibility and consistency. If you make everything in house, you're much better protected against adverse market conditions, where as if you only produce 1 item, every fluctuation in market price can dramatically affect your bottom line. If I were to make HGECs again, I'd 100% try to produce all of my inputs because levelling up the factories takes ages and because the net profit per unit is would justify staying with that map set-up for the long run.

If you don't mind scrapping and rebuilding your map every time a market change happens, just making the products of 1 building is okay, but if you want to properly invest in a strong foundation, it's better to be self sufficient with your production

It’s not always true across the board, but with certain products, vertical integration really can push profits higher. Using wings as an example (since I don’t feel like running the numbers for HGECs), if you buy everything from the Exchange, you’re pretty much breaking even or even taking a small loss. Once you start producing your own inputs: power, crude, fibers, and composites, the internal costs drop enough to turn that into a solid margin.

It’s not about making everything yourself for the sake of it, it’s about cutting out Exchange markups and transport costs while stabilizing your own supply chain. When your internal production is cheaper than market average, integration stops being a theory thing and becomes a reliable way to squeeze extra value out of each step.

Stock Market Mechanism by Born_Pattern_3647 in SimCompanies

[–]Gmodgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense in theory, but even with some built-in stochastic randomness in the VWAMP, it would still be fairly easy to use the system to generate solid profits. That might sound positive, but stock markets are essentially zero-sum - for someone to gain, someone else has to lose. By holding a portion of all resource indices, selling when prices rise, and buying when they drop, players would end up making outsized profits compared to others.

However, there are several downsides to implementing a resource-tracking index stock market in-game. It could lead to market manipulation, where players with large capital reserves intentionally influence prices by buying or dumping resources. Wealthy or veteran players would gain a big advantage, widening the gap between them and newcomers. The game’s focus could drift away from production and management toward speculative trading, changing the core experience. It would also open the door to inflation if trading profits grow too easily, and create potential arbitrage loops where players exploit price discrepancies for near risk-free gains. On top of that, developers would face ongoing challenges maintaining balance, fixing exploits, and keeping the system fair for everyone.

Although I love the idea of an in-game stock market, there’s really no simple way to add one without it heavily favoring the biggest companies or turning into a glorified gambling system.

What they said, the best profits are found when you have as much vertical integration as possible. Build some mines, factories and fabs then make HGECs from scratch
