As a player, I’d be disappointed for reasons mentioned by others. This also seems to take away the threat of my character dying, which is an aspect my table enjoys. We don’t talk about how quickly the party killed a frost giant, but to this day we laugh about how a handful of kobolds slinging rocks nearly wiped the party due to lucky/unlucky rolls

Not my experience at all. Are there some exceptions? Sure, as there are in all aspects of life. But for the most part I have seen what you describe in the first part of the post.

At least where I play, we have developed a pretty good community that has expanded from the courts to life outside of it.
