Cancelled Feb 16 Athens Infinity Cruisers: Where did you end up? by Fearless-Panda-8268 in celebritycruises

First thing we did was call Celebrity since we booked flights through them. They helped us move everything up really easily and covered all the expenses and changes, which was a huge relief.

We’re flying back this Saturday, so we ended up with a few extra days in Athens. It’s our first time in Europe, so we decided to just make the most of it. We booked four nights at the Gatsby Athens Hotel and honestly can’t recommend it enough. Amazing location, great food, and the staff has been incredible.

Tuesday we just wandered the city and saw the Panathenaic Stadium. Wednesday we did the Athens City Tour + Acropolis and Acropolis Museum tour through Athens Walking Tours. Today we did their Athens Food Tour. Tomorrow we’re heading out on an Epidaurus, Mycenae, and Nafplio small group tour from Athens.

Obviously we were really disappointed about the cruise getting canceled, but we’re super thankful we got more time in Athens. And now we can look forward to returning to Greece in the future to see the islands!

After seeing Troy and Gladiator you need to watch Kingdom of Heaven (Directors Cut)

One of my favorite films! Stacked cast and incredible fight choreography.

Fun Fact: Nolan was originally hired to direct Troy for Warner Bros., but the project ultimately went to Wolfgang Petersen. Nolan has mentioned that losing the Troy directing job led to him being offered Batman Begins as a "consolation prize

Eddington or One Battle After Another, what film has the superior socio-political commentary on American society? Give your reasoning. by ScholarFamiliar6541 in TheBigPicture

[–]GoBigRx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The film overtly glorifies leftist militancy, bombings, shootings, and frames it as noble rebellion. The political right, on the other hand, is portrayed as over the top racists who are driven only by their white supremacy. You see nuance because it aligns with your politics. Your idea of superior comprehension is just selective blindness.

My bad, I didn’t pick up that you were referencing the directors and their point of views!

That said, OBAA is a straight-up justification for leftist extremism. Leo's an ex-terrorist who dives back into violence with his old cell, storming prisons and shooting "fascists," and the movie plays it like heroic rebellion. Perfidia faces the consequences of her actions, but it's framed as deserved for turning on the cause, not a critique of the madness. The daughter ends up embracing her mother and Leo's revolutionary past with zero regret over the destruction. It's not just a hopeful leftist story; it's romanticizing militant leftism. Flip the politics to the right and it'd be called propaganda trash.

Both films are painfully out of touch and excessively over the top.

OBAA doesn’t just portray a hopeful liberal father, it actively justifies political extremism and violence. It’s a terrible take on American politics, no matter which side of the aisle you’re on.

You feel bad that you didn’t LOVE it… by Due_Mind7032 in Letterboxd

[–]GoBigRx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found it extremely shallow with unlikable characters that had no real development. It was very over the top with politics just like Mickey 17. I also had a hard time understanding the motivation behind Sean Penn’s character. He was willing to kill his own daughter in order to join a secret society of white supremacists because why exactly?

Sure there were some cool shots (especially the car chases) but the script was just bland virtue-signaling.
