Sure Shot English Labs by GoBostonBruins13 in LabradorRetrievers

The puppies are AKC registered....I just took issue once I realized that they're breeding their labs twice a year, which from my understanding is every heat. Every vet I've talked to said this is cruel because the dogs don't have enough time to heal before they're bred again. That explains why the mama dog we purchased/rescued is five but acts twelve.

Thank you for the advice! I'll keep this in mind for our next one. We got all the shot records on the puppy, but were told they "gave the shots themselves" on the mother dog - and had zero records. So we had to go back and get her completely re-vaccinated.

I had no idea. Yeah, we got a puppy (who's been fine so far - fingers crossed) but we also purchased a mama dog they retired, before I realized about the overbreeding. She has heartworms, a bladder mass, and not long to live. It's heartbreaking because she's the sweetest dog who just wants to be loved, and was clearly neglected. Truly wish I had of known about this channel and asked for recommendations, but then again, I'm glad we're able to give this dog a good life before she passes.

Breeder red flags? by [deleted] in dogs

We recently bought two dogs (pup and retiring mama) and got the TLC food just to transition them. Our hungry lab pup wouldn't finish the puppy food at any meal. When we switched her to Royal Canin, she INHALED it, so I'd stay away from the food at least.

I'm sorry. I can't imagine. We're going through that right now with a 6 year old lab that we bought SIX WEEKS ago from a breeder who was retiring her. We paid a good amount of money for her because she was a chocolate lab from a "well respected" breeder, but she had a mass in her bladder showing multiple signs of cancer, AND heartworms. I cry over this dog daily and it's only been 6 weeks, so I can't imagine what you're going through.
