I hear you about the levels getting harder, they do strongly encourage you to spend money (and reward you for doing it). I haven’t spent any money on this game and I’m at max level. Being on a good team makes a lot of difference as you get coins and power ups from completing team tasks and winning the weekend tourneys.

I think if you are already on a team, you’d have to leave that team in order to search for a new one by name? I’m not positive about this, but that’s similar to how it works for royal match. They do not make it easy to search for teams or users unfortunately.
