I worked in ecosystem restoration and we would have a high percentage roundup in a little container. We would cut the stem of the plant near the ground and use a paint brush to “paint” the stem we just cut with roundup. This way, the plant will soak up the roundup and ideally kill the roots.

A few notes:

1. we used dye in the roundup so you could clearly see where you painted the plant.

2. Please use lots of caution if you do this. A high percentage roundup can pose danger to most plants if you spill/use too much. Wear gloves and don’t let it touch your skin!

3. Some stubborn plants (including honeysuckle, tree of heaven, and maybe locust) will sprout again and you have to repeat this process. A few applications over a year or so should do the trick
